Patch times out
I've had to reinstall FoG. Got the exe loaded and am trying to patch to 1.8.1 but after two attempts, just as the download is complete, I get a "Microsoft timed out" message. Any ideas?
Meanwhile, I tyring to download 1.8.0.
Thanks,
Deeter

Re: Patch times out
I would try using a download manager or something other than IE. I've given up using IE for the web as its so unstable and slow.
Re: Patch times out
I don't think that's it. Attempting to download 1.8.0 resulted in another time out, so I used old patches to get to the point where I could download 1.8.1 from the in-game menu. That aborted at the end with the message "Couldn't read the header" or something like that. Plus the download speeds were all very slow. Any thoughts?

Re: Patch times out
I fired up FOG today and apparently did successfully install 1.8.0 because it then downloaded two very small files and became 1.8.1. Great!
I then proceeded to reinstall all the books in order starting with RoR. Then I fired up FoG and it has reverted to 1.1.0 and only shows RoR installed.
Tried to download 1.8.1 via Mozilla and it hung with 33 secs remaining.
I will now try a system restore to an earlier date.

Re: Patch times out
Deeter,
When you get patched to 1.8.1, do not install the books/add ons. Just register the serial numbers for those using the button on the start up program autorun.exe. RoR includes the patch for 1.01 which is why you lost the updates.

Re: Patch times out
I reckon this is just a ploy to avoid my MRR army in LOEG - Deeter knows what those bad boys will do to his Ipsos Alliance dudes (whatever they are)
Re: Patch times out
I have restored FoG and am multi-playing again. Restored to version 1.2.8 so I could use the in-game auto-updater. At that point I could see RoR and SoA. Did the laborious auto-update that once again said "couldn't read header" and auto-updated again to get the last two patches, so thanks Chris. You were right about RoR breaking the update.
This all seems very clunky. There should be a sticky about how to do this, I couldn't find one. There's also the problem of the direct download of the patch not completing, but perhaps that's just on my computer.
And Morbio, I'll be dealing with your Midget Rabid Rodents soon enough...

Re: Patch times out
This is all going to get thrown away and replaced. The issue is it seems to work for some and not others and its based on what order you did things previously.
The simplest thing should be:
Get to 1.8.0 with the stand alone patch.
Update the game with the updater to 1.8.1
Unlock the expansions - do not install them.

Thanks Ian,
Hopefully, none of this will be necessary when the new version is released. : )

Re: Patch times out
Should I assume from this post that if I buy an expansion for my just-purchased copy of FoG, I should not attempt to install it, but just register it?
