Graphical units counters mod

Post by damstabongo »

Hi,
(sorry for my poor english, i'm french...)

I bought this wargame last week and i'm very happy to play such a game like this, but i am a little bit disapointed by :

1 - the resolution restriction (but it's JAVA and i don't know how to modify this...)

2 - the graphical design of the counter (i'm a fan of the traditional boardgame design...)

So, if i can do nothing for the first point, i can do something for the second (i'm graphist). I take my photoshop, my scanner and my collection of osprey's book (and other too).

Here is what i do for begining to replace the original markers (it's a first job, if you have any suggestions, i'll be very happy that you express here). You can see that some counters are not finished for now. I'm working on the ship counters too.

click here to download the archive (.rar) that contains the files you just have to copy in your \commander europe at war unit picture folder to replace the originals (don't forget to backup the original of course...)
Of course, the counter are in 64x64 pixels and in 32x32 pixels...

Hi (once again)

There is the screenshoots (1024x768 pictures, it's big for a forum but it's for game graphic illustrating...) :

The battle for France

The dersert battle can begin

Barbarossa

Barbarossa (the same as above but in 32x32 pixels counter zoom)

The battle is beginning in the desert

The same in zoom level 2

Thats all in this time. I hope you enjoy this mod.
I'm still working on it. I'll post new screenshoots when something new happened.

Nice work!
This will certainly be a flavour for those who like counters but still want to see unit models and tech level :)

Great Work

Thanks Bongo,
Excellent Work.
Downloading now.
At 1st I thought the white band background may diminish the counter's country colour.
But the screenshots prove otherwise.

When do you expect to complete the ship counters?

found one glitch; the russian garrison units have their 'G' symbol reversed.

the orange numbers are very difficult to read on the english counters. (colour too similar)
The flashing "unit not moved yet" symbol greys badly on unit.
Garrison symbol reversed on many units, not just russian,

Hello,

Thanks for your comments. I have not seen that problem with orange numbers on english counters (it's more difficult to read the yellow numbers on italian counters). I'll change that as soon as possible (maybe an another color for each country...).

I'm working on the naval counters and on the pictures (in the information box) for all these counters (it's a big job to find all these pictures, to scan it and to work with photoshop).

I think this mod could be completly finished next week.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm working too on a translation in french of the game UI (all the texts are in a .txt file - it could be easy)

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm working too on a secret project to create completly new games by modding this one.

1 - A grand strategic wargame on the first world war

2 - A grand strategic wargame on the third world war (wich never happened)

The difficulty for these two projects is to find a good map and to understand the meaning of the files who describe the AI comportment.

But first i finish this mod

Hi,

I just forgot to talk about the reversed "G" of garrison. This happened with all the counters, sometimes they "look" to right sometimes they "look" to left. My pictures are in the right direction but i think it depends if the unit is on the west or the east front (i'll think about it and hope to find a design solution).

regards

Hi Bongo - great work. We have already completed a French version of the game and this is in production so don't waste your time translating anything! Keep up the modding instead! :)

hello,

too late... I have achieved the translation in french (except the manual). I have translate the name of the cities in french too (because "Lyon" and "Marseille" without "s" in french and a lot of cities name are different in french.

I do this translation for a friend of mine who says me i would not buy english game because he don't speak english. Now i think he vill not refuse to buy this one...
Translation is a good thing for promoting games like yours (the abbility to mod it too).

Do you want me to send you my translated "message_eng.txt" and "ww2_city_eng.txt". If these can serve you, i'll be happy.

This is a great game, an excellent plateform for modding a lot of historic wargames.

I finish my first mod (graphical one) but i'm working seriously on the two mods i speak in this thread. It's a little bit diffuicult for me to understand the mechanic of the game but i have made great progress in few days.

Best regards

Hello,

I've seen the game translated in french in a shop today, that's a good thing (first, because it was physically in the shop with a nice boxe and second because it is full in french).

My questions : How do the french purchasers of the english version of the game to have the french one ?
Is there a french patch from Slitherine or from Matrix games ?
If not, am I allowed to distribute freely my own translation of the game ?

My objectives is only to simplify this game's accessibility for a larger public...
