PBEM does not work (PC Win 7)

Post by OGWalters »

Is anyone receiving the message 'Exception-this game was saved in a previous version of the game and cannot be loaded' even though they are using GS 2.10 and so is their opponent? I am using a PC with Windows 7. The game runs correctly (and shows CEAW 1.12 GS 2.10 on the loading screen), but PBEM doesn't work.

I have had this too, in Win XP. The odd thing is that if I use my pre-release beta version (installed in a completely separate directory) I don't get the message.

Thanks Avoran, looks like there is a bug in GS2.1 then. I know the Mac version works correctly.Anyone having trouble with the latest release for PC?

I don't think the problem you're having is with Windows 7. I have successfully installed 2.1 to my desktop and my laptop and can run PBEM turns without any problem on both of them.
One has Windows 7 and the other still has WIndows XP.

Your problem is probably with how you installed it as I recall a couple people mentioning this issue.

Thanks ncali, I used the default settings for installation which puts the PBEM file into my 'Documents' folder (and my opponents mailings go to the 'Downloads' folder. How does that sound ?
