Hi Jon and Mlazar - no problem but I'll PM Michael before making a decision about which BG to assign.

Waiting to hear from Morge regarding a restart of Sword. I believe it is his call to make, we did assault the northern most portion of the beach, in the Queen Green sector.

Cool map Justin... Looks like it includes Sword, Ouistreham and the start of the Caen Canal... If you've got more of those, I'd love to see 'em? Would be really useful for June 7th scenario design...

Yup, the access I'm talking about is pretty much where Queen Green and Peter Red meet... Morge should have been able to deploy into those bunkers/ridges... He may have chosen not to, in which case it really doesn't matter... But if he feels that he wanted to, but was prevented from doing so, then the Allies got an unfair advantage...

For Juno it's a mandatory restart. For you guys on Sword, it's up to you. But it sounds like you should restart if you haven't got too far already.

Let me know what you decide... Sorry for the slip up guys...

We're about 6-7 turns into it. I feel it is entirely up to him, because like you said - if he concluded to not defend those bunkers because of game mechanics, then he may feel even slightly cheated so-to-speak, to have gone with some other strategy - in which case we should definitely restart.

I pulled that map from over here:

Must be destiny.
Monty:
On the eve of this great adventure I send my best wishes to every soldier in the Allied team.
To us is given the honour of striking a blow for freedom which will live in history; and in the better days that lie ahead men will speak with pride of our doings. We have a great and a righteous cause. Let us pray that " The Lord Mighty in Battle " will go forth with our armies, and that His special providence will aid us in the struggle.

GottaLove88s wrote:Players on Sword & Juno,

Mike has asked me to investigate what he believed to be a mapping error that prevented him from accessing important bunkers during the German deployment phase. I've looked into this, and unfortunately he's right. I had included a 5-row wide neutral zone between the two forces, as per a typical AFD in the rules... but this doesn't work for the landing beaches... either because it puts the Allies in the ocean, or because it denies critical bunkers to the Germans.

Consequently, I've revised the deployment zones for Sword and Juno, and emailed the updated .BSF files to all four players involved. For Juno, I'm afraid to say, this error is important enough that it requires a compulsory restart for that game. For Sword, it's optional. There is an accidental, easy path off Sword beach, that the Allies may have exploited. You'll know if you've done this. If you did, you should restart.

So for Juno, please swap in the emailed .BSF and restart guys. For Sword, please agree between each other whether you wish to restart or not, using the emailed .BSF. If you prefer, you can delete your existing campaign, and redownload. I have also updated our .CPF file on Dropbox.

Apologies Gentlemen. For the Allies, please put this down to a particularly easy landing practice somewhere in Cornwall. For the Germans, think of it as an overly demanding exercise for Rommel.

Mea culpa guys. Thanks for raising this asap, and thanks for your patience to permit me to fix it...
:-(
I know it has taken it's toll with me not being able to deploy units in the bunkers by the 1 pt flag, lost a few unitls trying to move them over to cover that area...where he has attacked through. I would like to be able to restart our battle. JCB, you ok with that?

Sure am. I figured that may be the case, given not even one shot fired in anger in the very first round of the game lol.
Please post a new game, no password will be fine. I will join right away.

Ok guys... Noted... Sword is a restart.

ONLY USE THE .BSF THAT I HAVE JUST EMAILED to both of you cc. your Commanders.
If either of you are iPad players, I've updated the .CPF 10 minutes ago.

I tried to take a deployment shortcut for Sword, but I've figured out how to be much more sophisticated now.
Basically, if it looks like you should be able to deploy somewhere, now you can...

For the Allies that means anywhere on the beaches; for the Germans, it means anywhere on the ridges.
Enjoy! ;-)

I observe from KingT's shrewd cross-examination that some of you are already mentally plotting out what happens next...

Please would Commanders privately email me the THREE sector maps that they would like to reconnoitre before making their command decisions for June 7th.

No freebies, I'm afraid. Meaning, it don't matter if you've got paras in part of Vimont, or if you've had a German artillery brigade in Hillman for the past three years. If you want that map, it counts as one of your three...

As a matter of practicality, this helps me to prioritise which maps to design next... and next week is going to be a busy one at work...
I'll email you privately the complex situation I'm thinking about, so the German think we're up to something. (We are, we're invading Normandy.) No but seriously, I'd like to know how such complex battle scenarios would be played out and how one would win the control of the sector following that scenario.

Haha, read your email, KT... Now that'll fox 'em!!

No, seriously... Only six (of 49) sectors on the map can hold more than 1 defending BG; the four landing beaches (where Allies are permitted up to 2 BGs) and the two German supply areas (where Germans can have as many BGs as they want)... So for most games, turning strategic moves into battles will be easy...

It's just a bit of a dog at the beginning of this one, while the Allies have to slog it off the beaches... and, erm, you haven't made my life any easier by grabbing Vimont and Villers-Bocage on turn 1 with your airborne, lol...

It will all make sense on turn 2... I'd be very surprised if Allies don't double up on some of the beaches, or if Germans don't take a pop at landing beaches from neighbouring sectors...

The questions for both Commanders become... To which sectors do I expect most of my enemy to come? Can I realistically hold out there? If not, am I prepared to see the defending BG there dissolved? If not, what else can I do about it? Am I prepared to do that?

Anyone fancy playing a Sword game?
(NOT Jcb or Morge because that would be cheating! ;-))

Put up a challenge and I'll accept.
NB. You must be using the latest version (uploaded 17h CET today).

Questions for Commanders? An increasing number of decision pathways, all evaluated on D1....Dn basis! Good stuff!

Unlike Jon's combat example, these decision pathways do not have binary (yes/no, on/off etc) 'black box' outcomes. They are more of the IF-THEN-ELSE variety coupled with human strengths and weaknesses related outcomes - adds to the fun!

And hey, nobody dies!

Gents, For those not playing this turn, Mlazar (new German player coming June 7th) is offering a Sword and a Gold in MP freeplay?
Would anyone like to get some practice in? Brummbar? ;-)

NB. Be sure both sides have the latest version. If there's any mismatch, BA's game engine will warn you. It's easily solved by downloading today's from 17h CET...

Hey Jon, when I restarted the Sword game, I noticed that one unit was moved from where I placed it during delpoy. It was 3 squares away from where it was placed???

I would like to say that, that's absolutely impossible, but the deployment phase is very sensitive...

Is there any chance that you might have accidentally left-clicked a square while you had that misplaced unit selected?... There are a couple of beach squares that are available to you (unavoidable when drawing with multiple large rectangles) that would be foolish for Germans to deploy into...

If it's an obvious booboo, you could ask Jcb for another restart? But I leave this to you guys...

If you're absolutely convinced that the deploy moved a unit, then I need to investigate this for other games... It's using Merr's code unchanged, which has worked faultlessly through three rounds of GJS... Let's all watch out, but please keep me informed...
