Difference in units
I haven't read throught the manual but hoping someone could enlighten me as to why the starting forces are different when you play either side? Playing as the Allies all french and polish all units are reduced, and the germans get an extra tacbomber and fighter, yet when you play as axis the french and polish are all strength 10 and no additional fighter and bomber?
Thanks in advance

Re: Difference in units
Short answer: because the AI is a lot dumber than a person, and the game is too easy otherwise

Re: Difference in units
Surely the fairness should come into it in the combats giving a degree of advantage to one side or the other? Not more stuff? And better? Always felt the game had an edge towards the allies. Never found a nice even ground where you could play as either side with a semblance of winning... Or is that only through PBEM games?

Unless you're an elite player who rarely makes mistakes, the PBEM version as it stands is biased in favour of the Allies.

I'm sure. But 1 or 2 times a game instead of 1 or 2 times a turn.Morris wrote:everyone make mistakes including any elites .

It is true that the Allies have an advantage, but one shouldn't overemphasise it. The most important factors is always the skill level.

Between more or less evenly-matched non-elite players the Allies will almost always win. At least that's my impression, having played both sides against a range of opponents.

I geuss it depends on what you mean when you say the allies will almost always win.
Of course they do and they should. The cards where stacked against the Germans, but this is the beauty of this game - there are degrees of victory and defeat. Lasting until June 45 is considered a victory of sorts for the axis. Taking into account the victory grading I find the game very balanced in poem.

Supposedly the Axis can win the game (if not the war!) by holding out long enough. Playing as Axis I never have, except once against a newbie.

Re: Difference in units
To be successful as axis you need to master The strategy of the game to a better extent. Always more difficult to be on the offense than defense, more careful planning and timin is required. Fight and during summer with combined attacks from luftwaffe and wehrmacht to maximize damage. Fight battles you know you can win. Withdraw to a secure defense line during winter and save strenght, rebuild, when you don't have the odds on your side.
Good luck

Re: Difference in units
one of the most important point of victory is grasping enemy's mistake & complicate the situation which he is not well prepared ,thus will make him have more mistakes & grasp them ,do the same thing by benefiting yourself ! You will win the game whatever side you choose !avoran wrote:I'm sure. But 1 or 2 times a game instead of 1 or 2 times a turn.Morris wrote:everyone make mistakes including any elites .
