Has anyone ever come across a case of the AI advancing after combat. Including when carrying out an amphibious assault and the defenders have retreated?
I know that the AI is useless and that the developers are loath to tinker with it, but it would surely improve its play by switching to always advancing after combat when possible. This may cause it to make a few silly moves, but it has to be fewer than currently.

AI advance after combat.
We sleep peaceably in our beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on our behalf.

I believe the AI does advance in come cases after normal combat and a retreat, but perhaps only when the attacking AI unit started the turn adjacent to the defending/retreating unit.GogTheMild wrote:Has anyone ever come across a case of the AI advancing after combat. As for advancing after an amphibious assault and the defenders have retreated: The AI will never do that since this is a new game function added for GS, and the AI logic was not touched for the GS programming.
Most things added in GS (SS units, paratroop units/para jumps, unit over use costs, unit purchase caps) are ignored by the AI with the lone exception of USSR Guards units, since those are generated based on unit performance. I believe the only solo play related tweak added to GS are several spawned AI units that will not spawn during 2 player games.

I don't know but the AI seems oddly improved with GS2.1
I have been trying to re-learn the game after a long abscence and the AI along with better scripted events in the scenarios is doing much better. The Axis AI has yet to declare war on Switzerland for instance. Norway is just an event and when Barbarossa starts, the Russians get a nasty surprise. The AI isn't a complete pushover any more, at least for me.

Switzerland is now pro Axis after all.
In spite of the Final Fantasy character it's pronounced sao-win after the Irish pagan god of death. I'm not a pagan but we're on a wargames website so I thought it fitting.

Ì think we altered Switzerland for AI play (not human vs human) so Switzerland becomes pro-Axis. The reason was that the Axis AI often DoW'ed Switzerland and got involved in a prolonged fight there. The AI didn't understand it was a bad idea to go after Switzerland.

Good solution ! Swiss did pro-Axis in the history before 1944 .Stauffenberg wrote:Ì think we altered Switzerland for AI play (not human vs human) so Switzerland becomes pro-Axis. One thing that could be improved is that the new AI abandons cities, even capitals, with, er, abandon.
Re: AI advance after combat.
yes ! even Moscow & Omsk ! they rush out to attack the enemy & leave the city empty ! It is rediculous & silly . It seems easy to correct it just let them stay & fight to die .peterjfrigate wrote:One thing that could be improved is that the new AI abandons cities, even capitals, with, er, abandon.
