Regimental Guns (subsequent impacts)

Post by jefritrout »

We had this situation come up during a weekend game. A unit of pike and shot with regimental gun were involved in a melee with another unit, however only 4 of the bases were in contact. During the following impact phase a new unit charged the pike and shot frontally. Does the regimental gun fire? The center file is already engaged in melee and the gun already fired in the first impact.

It was a lively discussion and there were at least 3 differing opinions on the matter.

Yes it fires. Below is a quote from Richard Bodley Scott from the Regimental Guns (factor) thread

"But note that the RG counts for impact combat if ANY file is frontally contacted, even if the rest of the BG is already in combat. (A bit of a freebie, but that is how the rules are worded).."

Mick's beaten me to the answer but I'm curious how there could be three interpretations. As I see it:

1) The gun can be counted in the fresh impact, or
2) It can't.

What else is there?

Well, there were three (or more) opinions not interpretations so it's anybody's guess.
