Spanish unit graphics totally wrong

Post by Ryben »

I´ve purchased the game (just released here in Spain) and what a nasty surprise finding that the Nationalist spanish units are...british.

The tank corps shows a British Matilda. At that time the most advanced tank in Spain should be either captured soviet T-26 or german Panzer I. Never a british tank.

Same for the fighter unit...a british spitfire? with british marks? OMG, that hurts my eyes. Please, change that and place at least a german M-109 icon! I´ve also noticed a "british spitfire" unit as Poland air units.

It´s there a way of changing that icons and editing them (to add the right national flags)?

Editing: I´ve posted a question in the mod forum. I´ll try to develop the right unit icons...i think this should be corrected in a future patch.

The reason is that all neutral countries share the British graphics. It was just not possible to create unique art for every country. Hope that explains the reason :)

Doh! I´ve posted this question in Mod forum but...

Could new custom icon sets be developed for each neutral country or it´s beyond editing right now?

I had no problem in helping you making those graphics...i´m a graphic designer and i would love to help.

Yes you could mod the graphics I believe, though note it depends who attacks! If the Axis attacks, most likely the allies would have helped them by sending air and tanks - so maybe the graphics are not so crazy, and if the Allies attack you will see the Me-109 and Pz IV graphic instead.

I am starting to make my own icons but, as far as i know, the Allied allies share the icons from the British set ..is there a way to assign individual icon sets to a single country (apart from the major powers)?

The minor nations share the unit graphics of their controlling major nation, so you unfortunately cannot create Spanish specific graphics. We're hoping to allow more customization in future versions.

That would be an excellent addition.

Have you considered implementing further icon customization for other units, apart from tanks?

For example, an Infantry corps with artillery improvements could depict one or two field guns behind them. Further advances would change them into self-profeled guns and rocket launchers at highest level..

I love the game but will like to see a more graphical way of depicting different units.

I am disappointed that the US and the UK share the same graphics.

I have already suggested a workable solution. When a player, sucha s myself, use the Counters option, EVERY graphic in the game including the purchase screen and the unit info screen, use counters.

I find the graphics make this wargame look like a child's toy.

COAW it´s a high price wargame (40$) and i´m a bit dissatisfied. Not about gameplay (which is good) but i expected a more polished product. I think the game, for what it offers, shouldn´t cost more than 20$.

Unit graphics looks like something done last minute just before the game was launched. No time for making all units? C´mon! Yesterday i took photographs of my german tanks and converted into suitable icons in barely a couple of hours. One week should be enough to develop graphics for everything.

Didn´t want to offend anyone. I know developing a game it´s quite difficult and i appreciate the effort you´ve placed on this but...

...at least give us an option in a future patch to edit all the graphics and removing the "sharing". It´s too hard to implement?

CEAW is very polished. To be honest I am glad that the devs decided to concentrate on polishing the gameplay not graphics, as most companies do. I have quite a few strategy games older than 10 years which I still play and a few new ones with great graphics that got boring after a month.

Anyway, unless I am mistaken, the icons weren't created for the game, these are classic icon reused in CEAW, which adds greatly to the "feel" of game. You may not like it of course, but the look is not because of being lazy, but a conscious decision.

As for your question Ian said above:

Nah! My response was a bit rude i must admit it. Since you may change that graphics it´s easy (but time consuming) to cutomize to adapt them to your style of play. I tend to forget that this is not Blizzard or another game developer with dozens of employers. :)
