Extended skirmish line firing

Post by dvorkin »

today during a game we had this particular situation and we had problem to allocate shooting dice:

A disrupted skirmish extended line has two targets in its arc of fire, one is a wavering ligt cavalry in close range for half of the extended line and the other is artillery unit in medium range fot the other part of the extended line.

we decided that the fisrt part in front of the cavalry had 3 dices ( 4 for extended line minus 1 for disrupted)
the second part was more difficult 1 dice ( 5 for light infantry minus 2 for cavalry minus 1 for disrupted and minus 1 because not all unit can shoot on it).

Are we correct for allocating dice and is it possible to consider only one part shooting as extended line and the other part as a norma unit.

I don't think you got this correct.

1. An extended line only counts as 2 units at close range.
2. A unit must shoot at the target in the closest range band.
3. The cavalry are at close range, so they are the target for the unit.
4. The 'medium' range half of the unit doesn't shoot at medium range, as extended lines don't count as two units at medium range. For medium range purposes the whole extended line only counts as a single unit, which is already shooting at a priority target (the cavalry).

So 1/2 the extended line shoots at the cavalry at close range, with a flank support from the other half.

Hope that makes sense...

Thanks for your answer
So you Apply the rule which says that you must shot on the closest enemy if they are in different range.

yes the you have to shoot at an enemy at close range applies here.
Remember shooting at medium or long range is optional, close range is mandatory.

Another thing to keep in mind, if both your targets were at medium range and were to your front you would get 5 dice for shooting and have to split the dice between the two targets. Down side to shooting from an extended line is it might force you to split your dice by having more targets to your front.

Skirmishers in a single line are still an extended line for shooting.
