I played thru this morning before work, maybe i missed something, it was early.. but to get a DV, i need to get 18 ground units to the other side, right?
Yet I can only deploy 18 units. Does this mean that I can not deploy any air power if I hope to get a DV? (Maybe come air since SS units don't count but) How would that even be possible given the might of the US air force? It would mean not losing a single unit.
What if someone does not have 18 ground units to deploy to start with - no chance of a DV?
What's everyone else doing here? Is it better to stand your ground and take a MV?

The idea is the bulk of the 18 you evacuate are the Italians you escorted out at Salerno. Ideally you would have brought out 10 to 16 there. You can deploy them in addition to your core, and they count for the evacuation total.

oh, ok thanks Kamerer. It was early =) but now I get it. Of course if you're like me and decided to sell those Italians for some quick prestige, well..

Yeah, that would pose a problem...Of course if you're like me and decided to sell those Italians for some quick prestige, well..
I sold the two or three high-value ones - fighter, P26/40, and used the others for evac. in this scenario, as well as helping win the Etna scenario.

I thought to get a DV you needed to get the guys across AND hold 5 objectives. So yeah if you sold all your Italian units you are really in trouble.Kaiser wrote:oh, ok thanks Kamerer. Re: Messina - West DCL
I mangaed to get a DV on using the bare minimum Italian units which was seven and left three Tigers holding the fort ie 5 objectives. I then replayed Syracuse again and managed to save 18 Italian units, I then sold all these units when I reached the Messina scenario for between 3000 to 4000 credits. I then just used my core forces to protect the 5 objectives for a MV. This way the difference in credits between a DV and an MV was only a few hundred credits. So if you want a lot of credits and can live with only achieving an MV then sell all your Italian units as you lose them all at the end of Messina!! (If you take the American option next). However if you decide to go for a DV, which is a lot more fun, you will be rewarded with two prototype aeroplanes - priceless!!
