Late Romans

Post by Scruff »

Hiya Guys

Must say I'm fairly excited about these rules, Played back in the old 7th edition days and never really played DBM as it just didn't "grab" me at all so all my various ancients have been tucked away in a big box since then :(

But, Ive ordered a copy of the rules (why is Feb so far away) and was wondering what a list of (DBM) late Imperial Romans would look like as it appear the list book for them wont be until later.

cheers

Prettey simliar actually.
You will want blades now!

You can prepare using the following principles.

1) Generals are not regular troops. So you either need new stands (potentialy 4) or don't count your old DBM generals as troops for the below types.

2) Everything is in even increments of bases 2, 4, 6, 8, etc

3) Most of your mounted you want in groups of 4

4) Depending on final list the PS support will be as you are use to, probaly the 1 per 2 ratio.

1 per 3 (or none)

What Richard means is the archer support for legionarii and auxilia BGs will be 1/3 of the BG or none - i.e. as Dan said 1 light foot archer base per 2 heavy/medium infantry bases; but you can choose not to have the support if you wish.

Ah, I see, I misunderstood what Dan meant.

Bearing in mind that DBM allows the option of 1:1 Ps to Bd or Ax, what I meant was that this option is not permitted. I would hate to have anyone who does not already have the army paint up a lot of unnecessary extra LF.

On the other hand those of us with DBM Late/Patrician Roman armies now have more LF archers than we'll ever need ...

You can always field them in a Byzantine army.

Pity I'm not interested in a Byzantine army of the period in which I could use them ...

Maybe I'll just expand my LIR to a silly size to use up the figures 8)

It all depends on how "late", your Late Roman is from the lists I have tested, how it looks.
