FoG2 iPad app crashing
I bought and installed FoG 2 and Rise of Rome via the Apple store over breakfast. I'm sorry to report that both are buggy to the point that they're not usable. FoG 2 crashes very frequently. It crashes when moving between chapters and also when paging within a chapter. The screen goes black and then you're thrown to the desktop, er, padtop. Also, you can't access the Index. I've tried multiple times and EVERY time it crashed.
Rise of Rome has a serious bug. You can get in and look around but after you've looked around a bit, the CLOSE button stops working. As a result, you can't get back to your rules. Even worse, the screen went black and hard locked. I had to turn off and restart to get back into the app. I restarted and confirmed the CLOSE button didn't work. This time, I double clicked the iPad button to pull up all my open apps in the bottom tray to manually close Rise of Rome. Field of Glory doesn't appear as an open app so the only way you can close out is to power down your iPad and restart.
I've been looking forward to this day for weeks but I'm now painfully reminded why one should avoid being an early adapter. I'm sure you'll fix these problems and the only question is how long it'll take. Quicker would be better.

Sorry you are having problems. We tested on all versions of the iPad so it should be ok but let us know your OS and system specs and we will investigate ASAP.

Re: FoG2 iPad app crashing
My old iPad 1 32Gb with iOS 5.1.1 (9B206) has crashed a couple of times whilst using the v2 rules and I haven't been able to repeat the actions to repeat the crash
FWIW 3G and WiFi running.
As I say only a couple of times and I've been playing with it quite a bit today to get a feel for it so for me at the annoying but not terminal stage - about what I've experienced from a lot of iPad apps to be honest just after release.
Not tried Rise of Rome - too much of a list nerd that I know all about those lists

Re: FoG2 iPad app crashing
The crashing of the rules seems to happen any time I try to access any of the later chapters.....wether from the index or by manually scrolling over.

Re: FoG2 iPad app crashing
Crashing would either be caused by poor programming causing what are called exceptions to occur, or by memory problems (which are also poor programming, to be honest).
In all cases what's called a crash report should be generated. You can see them under:
Settings App > General > About > Diagnostics & Usage > Diagnostic & Usage Data
Slitherine will get the crash reports via Apple if Automatically Send is selected (same place as above)
If the crash reports are "low memory", you could try "quitting" all other apps - in theory a "minimised" app isn't using memory, but... sometimes this helps.
If you don't know how to do this, double press the home button, then in the "bar" at the bottom you'll see all the icons of open apps. Hold you finger over one until they start to "wiggle". Then click all the minus signs to close everything (don't worry, you're not removing the apps.)
Whatever the problem, if you are getting crashes, I'd really recommend turning on automatically send of diagnostics as I described above. Then Slitherine should be able to figure out any problems.

Re: FoG2 iPad app crashing
Thanks, so this means data should go to slitherine automatically...fine. It appears a memory crash. I also noted that the fog app takes up as much hard drive space as 30-40 iBooks. maybe no biggie if it doesn't grow at the same space when adding other books.

Re: FoG2 iPad app crashing
I've had a few memory type crashes (iPad 1, 64 GB, iOS 5.1.1). I'll try turning off all my apps and shutting down.

Re: FoG2 iPad app crashing
@ IanB3406 - what iOS version are you using?
We will investigate the crashing further and await the crash logs - the more we get from people who are having problems the better understanding we get of what the problem may be.
Thanks
Lawrence
