NA vs Europe

After the successful opening stages, when some Hunnic cavalry units were destroyed while trying to retreat towards a series of ridge protecting their camp, it came for the Gepid lancers the hard task of charging uphill and in great haste the enemy superior cavalry units nestled on steep hills, just in order to avoid their deadly missile fire. It was a really painful affair eased at times when some Gepid unit was able to overcome the resistance of the defenders and could then occupy the high ground, assailing from above the few enemy battlegroups still present on the plain. As the situation worsened on the left flank and in the centre the day was saved by the delayed charge of the right flank, where the Ostrogoth allied lancers had been waiting their time while a mass of archers peppered with arrows the defenders, lowering their ranks. The rout of some enemy units in this sector finally prompted the withdrawal of the entire Hunnic army which left the field defeated after a fierce struggle.

Gepids (Lysimachos) 43/55 vs Huns (iversonjim) 44/43

So the 3rd point of this match goes to Europe that, for the first time, wins the Companions Cup!!!!!!! :D  :o 8)

Let's celebrate my Team-mates and loudly sing the song of victory!!!!

Hurrah!

I knew you could do it, team Europe!

With my glorious leadership(and not so glorious actual playing) we managed to pull a victory.

Thanks to everyone in the Cup, it was quite tense. :)

Huzzah!
An extra round of applause goes to Lysimachos. Not only did he managed to beat both of the two top ranked players...he also won against Fedem with one point to spare.
A draw instead and the Cup had gone to...shrudder...the Brits
Edit: Hmph...must be a bit dizzy from the success...BI hadn't won if a draw in that game. A win for Fedem wasn't far away though, and THAT had meant a Cup victory for BI...
still a damned fine accomplishment by Guido!

That's truly right, my friend, the battle should have ended with a well deserved draw!

But probably the wind of fate was blowing in favour of Europe this time, and the Brits had to stay aside for one turn, at least ...

Well I have certainly made a bit of a blooper (although still early daysish). Previous CC i had decided to have all teams play one another. If we had stuck to original format UK & ireland would have won. This time around I agreed or possibly even suggested (maybe a bit of very good guesswork on behalf of hidde?) this new scoring sytem (a win if one team had more wins over another team in a round), otherwise it would have been based on the previos CC, which would have meant for and against in each game. Again early daysish, Europe would then be on 9 with a game to go and we would be on 9 with 2 games to go.

I am never ever going to be involved in making decisions on anything with reference to cc again. Over to the ROTW to decide choice of armies, points etc and do not contact me at all:)

Well done to Europe and in particular Lysimachos having beaten the second and third ranking players. Sorry Guido but it may just show that the Huns were the weakest link (I think Tiavals, may well agree)

Bah, the Huns are great, it's the players who suck with them. ;)

See what Attila accomplished? He sure was a great general to do it with the Huns. :P

Many thanks to the organisers of this comp. It takes a lot of effort the keep people on track "hearding cats" comes to mind.

And thanks to the ROTW team for a stirling effort. We had our chances, but could not quite get there. Maybe next time :D Still, happy to beat our Yankee allies into 3rd place (how is Darwin, these days? Hot?). 3rd place is the new Australian sporting cry "Go for Bronze!"

BTW we (the ROTW) all think that the Hun's suck big time. Ian may prove me wrong in our current game, but they were the worst of this bunch)

Cheers, Claymore

It's not the Huns that suck, it's the map size that inhales. :D

The ones using the Huns have tried using both allies to try to get all the possible Lancers?

Cheers!

eric (Huns) 14/53 vs claymore (Early Visigoths) 52/52

Should have had a few practice games with them before facing Guido. I would have then taken both the allies and near enough maxed out on lancers and lf.

Thanks to all of my opponents, to our team and to hidde and batesmotel for organising.

Just one more to wrap this up. Will you guys finish the game? The standings are fixed but it would be nice to have the result sheet full don't you think?

Well, it was me that suggested the change. Does this mean you prefer the other scoring system? That last line makes me fear that you do...
What do you all think?
To me this way of scoring is reflecting a team effort more than the former. Sure, BI has an impressive number of won games and BP +/-.
BI won two matches 4-1 & 5-0 but they did lose to Europe 2-3.
That's the way I think one should look at it anyways.
