German HS 129 Tank Buster???

Post by RVeenenberg »

I just bought Panzercorps and found a few things curious, allthough I instantly liked the game:

- missed in Ground Attack Aircraft the Famous German Henschel 129 Tank Killer. Used in Tunesia and Kursk.
What the Henschel had what the Stuka 87G not had was: its heavier armor and better speed, which made de HS 129 much superior.

- the Heavy Cruiser is a beautiful "Admiral Hipper" type in full camouflage.
What is needed are for the British the characteristic 3 funnel heavies (Norfolk Class), the 4 heavy armored Italian Zara's and licht armored 3 Trento's.

- During Weserübung Germans used the Scharnhorst, Gneisenau BC's, Deutschland (Lützow) Pocket Battleship, Admiral Hipper, Blücher (large) CA's, 3 Köln class CL's and a dozen (large) destroyers
In gun duels the Hippers were much bigger and had a superior firing range over the other CA's.

Hi and welcome to the forum and game.

The Hs129 does indeed appear in the game. It was added to the TO&E, along with some other interesting units, with the Afrika Korps expansion. If you update to the latest game version, you will see it appear later. It was not in the original game or early "Grand Campaigns" (GC), but it is now after updating (GC is the more detailed yearly campaigns '39 to '45), or if you buy/play Afrika Korps.

As to the variations with the naval units, I understand your point. That annoyed me a bit to at first, but the general theme is that the naval units are there as an auxilliary to the focus of the game - ground operations. So eventually I just learned to overlook that with little ill effect. ;)

If you just played the base game and liked it, I highly recommend the "Grand Campaign" optional content. It is much more detailed in battles and scenarios, and I think more absorbing than the main (aka "vanilla") campaign.
