Wow! OK then. The rule is as follows, "In drawn matches where the damage inflicted over the army breaking points is equal, a toss of the coin by myself will be used to decide which player progresses in the tournament." So, as you are both +2 over your break point total, the tiebreaker cannot separate you so we will have to go to toss of the coin.petran1978 wrote:petran1978 later macs 29/27 vs mortonj seleucids 37/35

If Peter can call "heads or tails" by posting his choice on this thread I will tell you who has progressed to the next round. I have already tossed the coin and have sent the result to the_iron_duke so he will be able to confirm the decision. I am sorry that there is not time for a replay in this competition but each round operates on a fortnightly cycle. Well done to both of you for getting the game completed so quickly after Jim was away for a week or so.

And this is the first match where the player with the 50pt (or 100pt) handicap in their favour has managed to beat their opponent. So far the score is 14-1 in favour of the player without the handicap in these sort of match-ups.macsen wrote:macsen (Gepids) 30/39 beat Lysimachos(Jewish Revolt, later) 47/45

Pete, may I suggest a change to the decision process for future competitions. If the damge over break points is the same then rather than toss a coin I'd give it to the one with the smallest percentage over break. So, in the example here the 2/27ths of Petran would be greater than the 2/35ths of Morton so Morton would go through. If these percentages are the same then I'd toss the coin.stockwellpete wrote:Wow! I am sorry Peter, but the correct call is "tails" so Jim will go through into the third round. Bad luck, mate!petran1978 wrote:Pete I go for "HEADS".

Morbio, I will ask for feedback about the tournament when it has finished and I will raise your point then. Thanks for the suggestion.Morbio wrote: Pete, may I suggest a change to the decision process for future competitions. I will try to carry on the successor standard although I think I used up more than my share of luck in our game

I have been sequestered as an independent observer to the petran1978 v mortonj official coin toss. Acting in my role as Pontius Partridge I can confirm that "tails" was indeed the result.

The Aragon knights piled in to the Moldovians who - the usual campers dilemma - failed to bring enough can openers and then could not reach the hills and woods quickly enough.

Well that will make Lysimachos feel a bit better because that is the second match where the handicapped player has been beaten, so the score now is 14-2 in the handicap matches.Triarius wrote:The Aragon knights piled in to the Moldovians who - the usual campers dilemma - failed to bring enough can openers and then could not reach the hills and woods quickly enough.

Radio (Early Gallic (Lowlands)) 13/33 vs zumHeuriger (Later Ottaman Turkish) 25/25
I got a lucky break with the map which suited my gauls over zum's turks.

THIRD ROUND RESULTS FROM HERE
Re: FOG:It's a Knock-out 2. Post your own result here.
The last of the 2nd Round Battles ...
Londo (Sassanid Persians L) 22/29 beat claymore (Arab Conquest) 29/28
There were two hills in close proximity. Persians and Arabs each took one and glared at each other. Then with rude gestures (and showers of arrows) the Persians convinced their foe to come off their hill and attack.
The first wave of Arabs broke against the Persian defences. But the Arabs kept coming and -- with almost all their army being Superior shock troops -- pushed the Persians hard to the very end.

3rd Round result posted in wrong thread . . .
eric (Jewish Revolt) 17/46 vs ianiow (Classical Spartans) 56/47
My first few shots with the sup mf bow, disrupted some of Ian's hoplites, the zealots charged ina nd routed 2 or 3 of them on impact! Other units nearby failed tests and that was the (huge) bit of luck I needed on one flank. The other flank had my zealots charging into other hoplites and routing them in time, which caused a big hole to appear and then catching other troops, when I had been pursiung routed units.
Once more though I was really lucky with the intitial missile fire. I was also pretty embarassed about that but I think we both knew that even at about 9 vs 2 bps, the game was won by the Jews.

the battle was decided either by the sheer unbridled genius of my outflanking manouvere or the dice depending on who you ask
