I'd be interested in Helsinki if there was FOG. I'm not interesting in going for DBM. However, at this stage I can't commit as a definite.

Well, if the IWC was to be opened-up to more periods/rulesets, surely the current state of flux in ancients is an ideal time to start? :)

Rgds,

I would think so.

I'd also prefer to see a FoG World Championship under the IWF banner than be a separate event, however, I'd bet that if the IWF don't embrace it early then Osprey & Slitherine will set something up and I don't think that would be good for maintaining and growing an international wargaming community in the wider sense.

This thread should probably get cross posted to the main list.

I think Hammy, Terry and maybe Si are also in the "interested but cannot commit" category - fairly certain they would only go for FoG though.

I can't commit either, but I'd be interested as well.

No disrespect to any of the worthies on this list, but everyone here is, ahem, a Brit. Seems a long way to go to play other Brits from this list whilst drinking expensive beer, a couple of weeks after playing what is sure to be almost exactly the same set of people in Ascot. Probaby with the same armies if DBM experience is anything to go by...

I've no intention of going to play DBM either - but I think I would only be tempted to go for FoG if there was the prospect of a truly international set of competitors so I may get to play different people playing in different ways. I'm not sure how possible thats going to be this time around given publication dates etc....

Maybe one for next year instead - whereever that is going to be?

(Or Osprey/FoG does some sort of tie-up with FoW and launches a "pretty rule book World Championships" held at another place and time  )

At the moment there are similar threads in the French and Spanish forums but as my grasp of the language is well poor I can't be sure what they are saying. I think that there is some interest in both countries.

The real issue is that if there is not a FoG comp in Helsinki who will go to play DBM anyway?

Perhaps you should ask this question on the DBMList

Asking it here is IMO risky enough. If I ask it on the DBM list then I will be accused of all sorts of neffarious plans

Some in France, little in Spain I think - use Babelfish to translate some posts :)

That'd be the 20/30 people (to date) listed on the Helsinki website ...

Lets not get silly about this, there will be a large DBM comp at Helsinki, maybe not the largest IWF ever but still a good sized comp - and IMO it'll be bigger than FoG should there be a FoG comp.

Don't know. Maybe. Given that I am not playing any DBM at the club and the maximum number of future comps I am doing is one (i.e. Helsinki maybe) then I would make more of an effort to play FoG than DBM.

Are they offering DBMM at Helsinki?

I suspect you will get two or three French players and few if any Spanish players (44 views of my post, no volunteers...).

Bear in mind that the average wage in Spain is somewhere around 10.000 GBP per year. A trip abroad, Finland in particular, is prohibitively expensive for the majority of players. I, for one, can't afford it.
