the central hill for the defender

Post by Jilu »

This is one feature that i find strange. It gives an advantage ok,as if the defender has chosen the place where to accept the battle, however why a Hill?
Hills give lots of advantages. It does feel a lot like a British point of view (Wellingtons prefered way of doing battle). And then itwas just not one little hill, mostly an elevation of a few kilometers.
Not all battles had central hills. Lots of battles were fought in plains.
Sometimes battlefields were chosen not because there was a hill, but bacause there was a river, wood or village to protect a flank.
Eventualy It might have been better for a hill for the defender but then randomly set on the deployment area of the defender.

I have found it not that big a deal that it is a hil. It does serve also to prevent terrain from constricting defedner deployment zone. So in one sense it acts as an open space.

I have found the player effect of hills greater than the game effect.
Bullets travel uphill just as easily as straight. So a defender becomes static and you can concentrate fire.

Hills/ridges were very common. Marengo, Austerlitz, Jena, Eylau, Friedland, Teugen, Eckmihl, Wagram, Talavera, Salamanca, Borodino are a pretty healthy roster and i didn't finish.

The POA for a hill is significant but more significant is the run up to actually getting to that level. The POA doesn't matter if you are wavering before my assualt begins.

But the attacker HAS to attack :D so the psychological pressure is on him and he has to win with equal points or 40 points more, a mere 5 % points more ...
