Winning the game

Post by wavn »

Hello all,

I'am pretty addicted to the game and I have played it a "few" times; until now, I can win it right to the end: Western USA without cheating (ehh.......... for England I needed 17 turns) as Colonel :) .
Now I wonder if some of you have won the game as "General" or even "Field Marshall" and which advises do you have for me in that case.

Bye, Willem

Until now I only use "normal replacements" and the reason is that I fear, that I don't have enough points for an appropriate upgrade when I enter the USA.
Will experimente with "elite replacements" and look what that brings...........

I would recommend trying your hand at Field Marshal. Once you complete Field Marshal with a decisive victory on Western USA, it will actually unlock bonus difficulty settings for you to enjoy.
Of course after you've had your fill of the base game, there are many excellent official DLC campaigns as well as some user campaigns for you to enjoy, so don't get stuck playing the same thing over and over too long. ;)

I'd recommend learning how to spend your prestige wisely. Plan your core force, upgrade it when needed, make sure you don't lose too many health points while fighting, to limit your prestige expense. However make sure you don't overuse standard reinforcements, you need the experience later on. Rather make sure you don't need reinforcements that often.

Yes, but I have the idea that it only make sense to play Field Marshall when I have won at Colonel with a lot of marge; I now just win with a little bit of marge.
These extra games will be Christmass presents (until now I have the campaigns 39 and 40)

I'am now experimenting in these parameters; indeed I have experienced, when overusing standard reinforcements, I don't have left enough prestige points later on.
I now try to give esspecially the artillery and the tactital bombers extra force and protect these thougtfully: look what that brings :)

I played the game through on FM and was able to get a DV on all the maps until I hit the East Coast. The only Elite untils I had in my core were Art and Aircraft. Everything else got normal replacements. Was always one or two untis short on maxing out my core for the entire game.

Could not get through the East Coast with about 10-12 tries. Finally used the Urber Unit cheat code and even with that I still got the last objective on the last turn for a DV lol. Had 3 Strat (one I bought just for the EAst Coast), 3 ME410, and 5 ME262s. I could ususally get everyone ashore without losing anyone, but it always took too long to slog through all the way down to the southern most objective. Everytime I tried landing further south, my units would get killed as I could not keep the US Navy far enough away. I will admit it WAS a lot of fun using the Urber Unit cheat though lol.

The rest of the US maps I had no issue with getting a DV on FM. Just the East Coast.

One issue with the game is that if you mess up some of your core choices (which I freely admit it is entirely possible I did) you have to go back through the enitre game to fix it. No sure if I would be willing to do that again on FM just to see if I could get a DV on FM for the East Coast without cheating.

Thanks for your information Numdydar.
Playing al "Colonel" and just able to win (but in the USA no DV's) I still have a lot to learn :)

What exactly do you mean with the "Urber Unit cheat code"?

There is no rule that says you have to deploy all of your units during the deployment phase. Hint, hint.

ALT - CTRL - Shift c brings up a box where you can type cheat codes located as a Sticky. I could not post the link for some stupid reason

Urber Units allows any attack to completely kill any unit

I think, I willl try as General with at the beginning of the gane a "little advance" like more prestige / more core units :D

It should be nice (learning and entertaining) to see in pictures or film the way in which one has won the game on FM level (with if possible DV's) :)

I did the standard campaign on FM and the difference to Colonel is relatively marginal. What makes things more difficult is that you cannot afford to use elite replacements for every units all the time. Then it is only about one thing, is your core experienced and strong enough to win a decisive victory in the USA in the end. This is where you basically have to replay the final scenario if you fail till it works out! ;)

The DLCs are an entirely different challenge: Better save up early, from late 1942 the 1943, 1944 and 1945 DLCs will be put you into an entirely new situation, the enemy is not only making your advance more difficult but is capable to crush you if you are not on your toes!

I hit my "FM" limit in 1943. From then you really have to know and play the game mechanics to the max, at least I had to.

It's interesting how Prestige considerations change the game on FM level. For example while Tigers are expensive they usually take little losses and can save Prestige. StuGs offer a lot of bang for the buck. You will also try to back up your Infantry better with artillery and become less reckless.

Whatever - it's a lot of fun and the forum is always a good place to discuss scenarios and strategies! :)
