I'd also go if they ran FoG, but not otherwise. Come on it would be the 1st FoG International World Championship! Probably the only reason why I would ever go to Helsinki really. What we really need is a list of names of people who would definitely go and play FoG at Helsinki. If they are enough they I am sure this can be passed onto the IWF via the BHGS.

Perhaps a bit too early to judge any Italian interest, given the number of games played is not into double figures yet!nikgaukroger wrote:
BTW if somebody could translate and crosspost to the French and Spanish forums it would be useful to guage interest IMO.
If you push for FoG, in all fairness you'd have to push for allowing "other" rules, no?

After a lot of discussion the IWF is finally in the process of taking a vote on allowing more than one ruleset. I expect that this vote will be passed thus more than one ruleset will be possible so DBMM, Warmaster, WAB and FoG all have a chance to be picked up by the WIC organisers (for 2008 that will be the Finns).
At present the Finns are intending running DBM and DBR in Helsinki. I have argued myself blue in the face (welle electronically speaking) to try to get the Finns to seriously consider other rulesets. It is possible that a list of names who would attend to play FoG but not for DBM and FWIW a similar list of DBMM, WAB and Warmaster fans may get things moving. That is I believe the reason for this thread. If you want to play FoG in Helsinki next year put your name here.

The best argument being numbers; pointing out allowing other rules means players who might not otherwise attend will. Of course, that perhaps depends on their capacity.hammy wrote: At present the Finns are intending running DBM and DBR in Helsinki. I was a while back discussing with Guglielmo Marlia about this, and I agreed with him that I see no reason why the IWC should not also have other periods, like Napoleonics. The main problem is organisational. With a premier event like the IWC, a full range of periods like Britcon could result in a very large number of players, a potential organisational and perhaps more importantly, venue size problem.

Fully agree but would it not be great to have a problem with numbers and so far as which period attracts the players, is that important to the IWF ? Surely what they want to see is wargamers attending. In these days of declining interest anything that gives a surge is welcome.
In any event the thread here is whether or not there is support for a FoG World Championships at Helsinki, others are in charge of whether or not they offer a whole list of periods. It would be really greaat if it was possible to arrange Helsinki to meet up with old friends and support the event, but if not I guess we coiuld consider a seperate event.
Definately a musch less desireable solution to mmy mind.

Well, if the IWC was to be opened-up to more periods/rulesets, surely the current state of flux in ancients is an ideal time to start?jdm wrote: Fully agree but would it not be great to have a problem with numbers and so far as which period attracts the players, is that important to the IWF ?
