Sorry people but I am dropping out of the campaign.

Have had numerous discussions with stockwellpete about it in the past and I do not wish to start that again.

I will play in one handicapped tourney but that's it.

Have thoroughly enjoyed the games, so thanks to all players.

Cheers to keyth and macsen

Hi guys,

I agree with Eric regarding handicapping.

So, if it is going to be this way I prefer to leave the campaign.

Has been real fun though.

Cheers!

Wow, nice of you guys to try and discuss this with me and instead just jump ship. Does anyone else have strong feelings abbout this as I am quit happy to hand over the whole thing to someone else.

Macsen,

You didn't discuss anything with us about the possibility of handicapping.

You just did it.

And there is no way I am going to discuss handicapping again, after I had a long discussion with stockwellpete about it.

The majority though have accepted it, so it was a good call.

Strange thing is since pantherboy has left (and he would win everything), "handicapping" has reared it's incredibly ugly head.

Federico - I think you should continue playing in the campaign

No Eric, I didn't consult and I'm sorry about that. I just didn't realise that some would have such strong feelings about it. I did explain to you why I did it in my pm to you, and even offered to undo it if you didn't like it. Instead you have opted to publicly quit with no further discussion due to the "evils of handicapping".

May I point out though, this is not a competition, it's basically a semi structured game generator, and we aren't playing for sheep stations. If all you want is straight competitive games then stick with randoms and LOEG, and no I don't think any sort of handicapping has a place in straight competitions.

Personally I'm sad to see you go as I looked forward to future match up's with you and I fully intended you to fight with the same points.

Hi Mac

My fault there as I didn't read all of your pm to me.

I guess that proves in a way how much I am agst handicapping. It really does bug me big time and so my excuse for not reading all of your pm is that I was seriously p$£&&ed off.

Hi,

Let's keep rolling then!!

Maybe if yu want to use handicaps let's apply it to the ones that occupies the first two positions so anyone feels alone :)

cheers!

Well, my opinion (which means nothing) is....I agree with Fedem..If your 1rst or 2nd, OR for that matter the last 1 or 2 bring on the handicap...I even said I would take Erics challenge as I thought it would give me a fighting chance. NO way would I have offered on an equal basis (I may be very average, but I am NOT very stupid).

Eric, I understand your position and not sure what the outcome would be, I just wish I was good enough to give it a shot. They do it in Chess at times....but that is a static game.

I just think in THIS situation, it will promote play and challenges. And at the bottom of the ladder it puts a little zest back in it for them...

Just one opinion...and I think Eric has made his feelings known and we respect that. :|

Personally I don't care about handicapping either way. So I will wait a day or so before posting any challenges to see how this shakes out.

For what its worth I dont like any sort of handicapping. When I win a game I like to feel I've earned it (competitive or not) and I don't mind losing games so handicapping kind of makes the whole process a little pointless.

Radio, you have a point for sure!! I am just looking at the way it is set up...we HAVE to challenge the one below us but the others can be anybody. I don't see much challenging from the bottom to the top, but I DO see a lot of challenging in the middle to middle or middle to those who got off to a bad start. Sooooo, I think SOME kind of incentive needs to be put in place...maybe you get more points if you beat someone at the top or less if you beat someome below you and they get more points.

Like Mac said...this is a different animal than challenging on the boards. You can bypass this all together if you want a straight up battle. There is a LOT of games I play that you get less points for a win over a less ranked opponent (Conquer Club for one) and thet get more if they win.

Just my opinion, and maybe we should have agreed on it at the start, but we have had a change in 'management', and I personally think Mac is just trying to keep interest in this and make it equitable.

Just an opinion guys, not lobbying. Sorry for any misspelled words, grammer, etc. Typing one hand as i blew a shoulder out last weekend playing rugby.

On a different subject, I would like a clarifacation on killed Commanders....I understand when we get the white icon and we know we killed a commander. I also know if I rout one, it is NOT considered killed. What I DON'T know is when after it is routed is it considered killed.

1. When it is surrounded and vanishes from the board I would assume he is dead, or being dragged in chains back to be tortured and his head on a spike.

2. IF he leaves the board.

Am I correct in assuming these 2 instances...it hasn't been brought up with an answer that I have seen, and it hasn't happened to me or have I accomplished this feat myself. Just don''t want/need an argument about it..

Thanks!!!

My impression is that the way Keyth handled this was that the commander was lost if:

1) Commander was killed in combat (white symbol).
2) If the BG is destroyed in combat or before it leaves the board.

If the BG is in rout at the end of the game or if it routed off the board with the commander, then the commander is assumed to survive.

Batesmotel is right and that's the way I handle it as well.

I guess I never mentioned it as we already had the discussion in the other campaign.

As to the handicapping thing, as we have at least one player with strong views about it, I suggest we drop it and move on.
