The Venetian messenger is proud to announce that the army of the east defeated the Byzantines conquering the province of Thessaly after bitter fighting in the nearness of streams and woods.
Venetians (28/43) vs Byzantines (54/53)
Strategic victory (16.66%) = Thessaly conquered

Oh Great Sultan of the Ottomans, the Doge and the "Major Council" have jointly decided that is time to punish all of your provocations and lastly the instigations on the Serbs to attack us, so that a vapid war of words has to be trasformed into a real war of arms where honour and courage may be displayed on the battlefield!
Consequently the decision is made for a Land Attack from Thessaly to Attica, 750 pts. battle, DM on FoW off.

The Milanese will launch their fleets to confront the perfidious goat-botherers again.
And we request a trade agreement with our good friends the Venetians.

The Doge has displayed to his closest advisors the desire of entertaining himself with artists and scholars and the "Major Council" - feeling that this fact would enhance the prestige of the Republic - has agreed to the proposal resolving to build an Academy.
Every talented men, whichever his status, nationality and patrimonial condition, is invited to join the Academy (where every afternoon sandwiches and wine will be liberally served)!

The proposal is interesting but the word has run that our diplomats, being men of old, would like, before agreeing, to be enticed by some description and also tasting of the goods you could send us, beyond the well known suit of armours for which you're famous in the world.stockwellpete wrote:The Milanese will launch their fleets to confront the perfidious goat-botherers again.![]()

Hmm, well beyond our traditional northern Italian fares (armour and handguns) we are also now able to offer a range of goods from our new trading partners, the Castilians.
Is all this to your pleasure, my lord?

I must admit the fluffy slippers encountered the highest favour of the "Dogaressa" and the diplomats too were really delighted tasting the new dishes of the Spanish cuisine.
So the Doge has signed the trade agreement proposal while the Dogaressa offered as a kind gift to the Duchess of Milan some new make-up just arrived from the Far-East, said to be used by the Chinese Empress during the hottest nights with the Emperor!

Well TGM, your comments has really impressed me.TheGrayMouser wrote: Ah that makes sence, you have dedts you do not honour then you fall into $ and maintain you are broke...
Last night, in fact, I dreamt of StockRulePete, the Lord of all Barristers, exploiting the campaign rules till their last drop of blood like a vampire, leaving them afterwards in cyanosis on the morgue table, ready to be substituted by new ones set up in the meanwhile by the campaign manager (me), working like a slave!
(And this really makes sense if you think that he cleverly
So now, fulfilling the nightmare’s prophecy, here are the rules about budget deficit, amended in order to frustrate future mishandling by cunning players (lawyers):
Treasury
Each nation owns at the beginning of the game a treasury of 500 ducats.
If, during the game, the treasury is depleted and, as the result of a random event or of a plunder, a budget deficit arises, the player will suffer the loss of 2 stability point.
Plunder
A tactical victory against a province owned by another nation earns the winner 40 ducats, that will be taken from his opponent treasury.
After a strategic victory against a province owned by another nation the winner has the chance of leaving the province in possession of his opponent while plundering it for a value of 100 ducats, that will be taken from his opponent treasury.
By the way, given the fact that one month is already passed and that a long stretch of road has been walked together, I think that, if we maintain the same pace, the deadline of the campaign could be anticipated to the 15th of October.
In this way on one hand we should be able to reach the end with all the players still in the game, having given everybody a sufficient period of time to properly develop his strategies.
On the other hand we could then start a new campaign settled in a different time, putting in effect from the beginning all the new rules already prepared and some others that I’ve envisaged in the meanwhile as better suited to overcome some problems emphasized during this first part of this game.

After the peace treaty with the Kingdom of Castile were signed Hafsid emissaries have been busy sailing between the Pillars of Hercules.
Talks have been made and reports of progress have reached the Hafsid king.
The final propostion are as follow:
Upgrading the peace treaty to alliance. 50 ducats in payment to cover expenses. If a joint amphibious action is made and no Hafsid land army is present, should a Hafsid fleet be lost, 25 ducats shall be paid in recompense.

Castile will happily accept the proposed upgrade of our Peace Treaty with our friends the Hafsids under these terms. And it is nly fair that their ambassador's expenses should be compensated.hidde wrote:After the peace treaty with the Kingdom of Castile were signed Hafsid emissaries have been busy sailing between the Pillars of Hercules.

but under the new rules all the diplomatic agreements have a standard format that cannot be changed.
This means that the Alliance may foresee the payment of a determined amount of money but not linking it to specific event, like the loss of a fleet.
So the proposal must be amended in order to take care of this feature.
