Post by McGuba »

Hi,

I am still alive, checking the news here sometimes, just not posting as I am indeed quite busy. You know, as a veteran Panzer General modder PhilChamp once told me, some people prefer working to talking
However, I restarted to work on Hungarian units/campaign some time ago and made some more progress. I nearly finished the first half of the Hungarian units intended to use for the first half of the war. (I had to fine tune few things like unit stats, correcting the animation offsets, adding b&w bigunit images, and the like.)
I also finished the first two scenarios of a Hungarian campaign so I am planning to release a unit pack no.1 soon, possibly together with a few playable scenarios.

Oh, and as you can see, I am also using Massi's great terrain tiles, so adjusting these for the generated maps also takes some time...

I really like those icons, especially the trucks. Hope you will release the graphics and stats soon. Massi's tiles are outstanding and can be used to change the dynamics of a scenario or campaign more than the vanilla tiles.

However, I am still using PC 1.05 version and I read that there might be compatibility issues with new 1.1 version with the tiles and unit stats. So what are those implications exactly? I think it would be better to convert everything to the latest version from now on.

Hm. OK
I really like your icons, but, are you sure that the first Magyar Huszár icon is from ww2 and not from 1848-49?
This picture is from A Magyar Királyi Honvédség Egyenruhái 1920-1945 (Uniforms of the Royal Hungarian Army ), by Dr Laszló Tóth, 2007.

The "42 Magyar Huszár" looks more appropriate to me, but regarding the Hungarian "Mente", or coat on the back of the huszár being worn like that, the afformentioned source says:
"although wearing the mente loosely on the shoulder was part of the uniform before 1918, ... after 1933 it could only be worn normally and only during the winter."
However, the officer in the bottom wears it like that against the regulation, probably to make his rank visible.

:)
Of course you are correct.
Currently it is a fantasy unit, much more so than the Turán III. (I just didn't like having the same picture represent both Huszárs.)

But I like your reference pictures, most probably I'll try to do a more appropriate version.

I just wanted to hint you to release your units;), since I'd soon like to have a DLC play with some Hungarian core added.

Sure, please find it here.
Note: I don't take credit for most of these, since I used other's work as basis. There are also some previously seen units with very minor edits by me: like changing color, contrast, adding shadow, etc.

Augustin!

You can find unit icon image for the 38M Botond truck in the Hungarian Pack 1:
http://slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=147&t=36969
Image

And there is a Fiat 3000 icon in the Italian Campaign although its style differs a bit from the ones in the HunPack1 so it might need some retouch. (I do not know the author of this icon so you might need to ask for permission to use it...)
http://slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=147&t=32748

Sorry, but I do not intend to make icon for the Crossley as it was used in very small numbers if I am right, and I still have to make many others.

Maybe key will do?

McGuba,IMO, you should also make a version with Hungarian insignias on. That way it will more easy to identify the units in the map when playing.

Of course I can put Hungarian insigna on tha Fiat 3000, but as I said it was made by someone else in a different style, probably taken from a drawing, and I think it would not be consistent with the existing units:

Image

By the way the Hungarian army had only five Fiat 3000s and they were only used for traninig according to my sources. And there were only two Crossley armored cars which were also used for training exclusively. Sorry, but for me these numbers are far too small bother with the icons and even the Wiki article puts a question mark after them showing the uncertanty of their use in the Slovak-Hungarian "Little-war".

This one is actually better. Just reskin it green and add the Hungarian flag.
