Sharing dynamic maps...

Post by GottaLove88s »

Pip/Iain, Is there any way to share a map that's currently active in a game?

Several of us are massively engaged in Granfali's unbelievably awesome, D-Day for BA tournament, viewtopic.php?f=87&t=36734&start=180#p349603.

Right now, we're cutting screenshots and pasting them back and forth to each other on the private Allied thread. But we keep wanting to twist and rotate those views, zoom in, scroll across...

Is there any way to share a dynamic map with somebody? So that they could open it and see where our units are, and where the enemy (that we can see) are too...

Thanks!

It would certainly be a very cool idea. Kinda like a 3D snapshot. It's not something you can do right now - it would need to be a feature we added. It would be considerable work to add - mainly to prevent it being a vector for cheating. It would effectively have to be an unplayable savegame.

I really like the idea though. I'll give it some thought - even though it would be a pretty power user feature.

Cheers

Thanks Pip, You totally understand what we're looking for.

Although it sounds power-user, this could take off, especially as more and more BA tournaments begin... Enric's just launching a cool new City River tournament, with modded smoke and engineers that can remove tank traps (viewtopic.php?f=115&t=37159).

A kind of "save whole map" function would be a great way (the only way?) to share everything that's happening in a game. Perhaps there's a way to save an encoded file of the landscape, where all of the units are, and which direction they're facing. Then include a "reader" within BA, to unencode and permit scroll and zoom (maybe an EditorLite, limited to viewing rather than edit, with rules to only display what the player can see). Once we were happy with the rotation and zoom, we could click a "camera" button on the "reader" to save a jpeg. (Potentially all neat stuff to provide juicy pictures for Slith's marketing people, hehe? ;-)).

Players could save these maps of each of their turns (or have an autosave option) to build up a full chronology of a game...

Thanks for thinking about it anyhow... Have a great weekend! :D
