How are the transport planes assigned?

Post by Mark50 »

Is it possible to have different transport aircraft for 2 nations that fight on the same side in a scenario and for those aircraft to be nation specifics? For example, in the Germany scenario, is it possible to embark soviet troops in Li-2 planes and american troops in C-47 planes? In my experiment what happens is that the first choice(which by default here is probably the british C-47) is used for whoever tries to embark first. Does anyone know any better? :D

As you have found, the order the transports are set in the editor determines what will be used where more than one possibility exists. The number available of each type and their order is the only way to affect what gets picked.

[Edit] ...without a custom equipment file (see Chris10's response below) :)

But that is rather annoying. Especially if you have different graphics for the various nations so that it`s immediately noticeable that the C-47 is british or american for example. The way it is now, you want to embark an american infantry unit it will use a british aircraft. You want to embark a british next it will go in a soviet Li-2. I was hoping there was some sort of way to make the transport planes nation specific. After all, they do have national IDs in the equipment file.
Thank you for the reply!

lets see...open the equipment file (best with excel or open office cause of spreadsheet)
go to entry US C-47> goto column Transport Category ..this cell should be empty..now add the following usair
now goto US infantry entrys and goto colum Usable Transport ...it probably should look like that
land sea rail air glider...delete anything after air ( you never get troops to embark to a glider anyway before the regular transport number has been exhausted...so forget about gliders if you have them anyway)
now add (with a space after air usair
do this combination air usair for all US infantry or units you wanna be able to embark on C-47 plane

do the same for soviet...add sovair to the Transport Category of the Li-2 and add air sovair to all russian infantry or unit you like to embark embark on a Li-2 plane..

save changes to file and run the game..each country should now use its own specific transport and magic happens :D

Eek! What a titanic effort that`s going to be! How many transport traits are allowed? Also, what does "air" stand for? Air transport? If so, shouldn`t usair replace air instead of adding to it? Thanks for the reply!
EDIT: or maybe air is just the class and usair is the subclass so that both are needed?

so many questions and so little time
just do as told :D and your problem is solved

btw air enables airtransport for the unit and usair is the subclass

Chris,
Your efforts and knowledge are indeed inspiring. I wish that some of the money I send to Slitherine could go to you too :) .
