Mixed BGs, is it legal to have odd numbers of a type?
If you have a GBG of pike, shot and halberds do you have to have even numbers of each type?
i.e. is a BG made up of 10 pike, 5 shot and 1 halberd legal?

Re: Mixed BGs, is it legal to have odd numbers of a type?
A quick review of the appendix 'Using the lists' does not appear to forbid doing such a thing, as the group has an even number of bases, and the number of bases correspond to the range specified for the group as the GBG example mentioned sounds like it is one of those big Landsknecht/fussknecht groups.
But I have to ask, why would you do that? What would be the formation on the table-top?

Well its hammy always looking at the odd bits.
I could see this formation having a little extra longer shooting ability.
FWIW Hammy I would do 2 HW and 9 pike. the HW are far more versatile and same points.

So why not take 6 shot and 10 of the other stuff, if you want more shooting? It's not like the HW stand is mandatory.hazelbark wrote:Well its hammy always looking at the odd bits.

I was just curious....
It seemed to me that 5 shot made sense. You would get 4 dice of shooting until the BG has lost 4 bases which is not at all bad.
The list checkers at the tournament I entered decided it was wrong even though there is nothing in the rules to prevent it so I figured I would ask the question.

Hmmm...interesting. Well, I still can't see anything forbidding it, but I think it would look odd.hammy wrote:I was just curious....

Hammy
The list checkers got it wrong as far as I can see. I have checked the rules and the v1.08 errata. The rules specifically mention later BGs with 5 shot and 1 pike and do not state that this is in any way an unique exception. I would recommend you appeal.

Tim

Well it is perfectly understandable that any idea put forward by Hammy is viewed with deep suspicion.

Surely that is an exception to the rule that Pike and Shot bases cannot be in the same file (P33).The rules specifically mention later BGs with 5 shot and 1 pike and do not state that this is in any way an unique exception
I can't see anything that's not permitted in Hamm'ys compostion, but the formation would look strange. As far as I understand it, the Halberd base would need to from up with the Pikes, and there would be one Shot file of 3 bases and one of 2. Again this is not prohibited but it seems odd to have all files of different depth, e.g.:
. H
. P P
. P P
S P P
S P P S
S P P S

Well, the diagram for a colonela shows a version with the swordsman stand in the same file as the shot stands, next to the pike stands, making two columns of 3 stands, but maybe that's another exception.
Speaking of which, is there anything to stop one from deploying a colena with the shot on both sides of the pikes, like so:
Sh P Sh
. . P
. . P
. . Sw

That is what I think Hammy is aiming for. I do see the value in it. Just wish I had been bright enough to have been first.
