Fall In Convention, Gettysburg, PA, USA
Is there any possibilty of anyone running a demo of the new game at the upcoming HMGS Fall-In convention on November 9th to 11th?
Historical miniatures wargamers will gather once again in the town of Gettysburg for another bloody faceoff between the North and South, and that's just the Membership Meeting on Saturday morning. Gaming will cover 2-1/2 days, from Friday morning through noon on Sunday, and will include scenarios from virtually all time periods, dozens of different rules sets, and a bewildering array of army types and figure scales.

There may be a last minute attempt at one, but I know of nothing scheduled currently.
Now if JD was to send over incentives again,
then we would all perk up quickly. Also we need clearance from the publishers for this.
I would say not likely that a beta team sets up, but not 0% either. So check this space the thursday before the convention and there may be a last minute deal but not likely.
Now if JD was to send over incentives again,
I had asked this of JD a while back, and he indicated that a current beta tester could get with the HMGS folks and have them contact him (JD) indicating there was interest. I assume then it woudl be up to JD to give the HMGS folks approval for teh event and the beta tester coudl then get the event on the schedule and gear up the NDA stuff for teh players. Again this was about 2 months ago, but it might still be able to be done.

Fall-In Convention
If it's not already in the works by this point, it won't go into the printed schedule. Without a listing in the Event book as "free advertising", there's not a whole lot of point in running it, aside from personal enjoyment for a couple of playtesters.
Actually, it's probably just about time to start thinking about putting it into the Cold Wars convention schedule.

I believe that Marc Crotteau is working on getting an event into the Cold Wars book as we speak.honvedseg wrote:If it's not already in the works by this point, it won't go into the printed schedule. Also....I am interested in starting to plan for Historicon '08. I can help sponsor a 25mm open or, depending upon other participants, even 15mm. The first US National FoG championships!

I am sure to run an open here in KC at the Fall and Spring Recruits conventions.[/quote]
The ancients tournaments at Historicon are generally run through NASAMW (North American Society of Ancient and Medieval Wargamers, www.nasamw.org) -- at least DBM, DBA & Warrior are...
If you are interested in getting involved with NASAMW you can contact me either through this forum, or at clh4@aol.com. I just finished my term as DBM Rules Coordinator and was trying to convince Marc Crooteau to become the NASAMW FoG Rules Coordinator. Regardless, either Marc or I can put you in contact with the NASAMW folks and get you set up for H'con.

Re: Fall-In Convention
As usual Chuck is correct. I am trying to sort out FoG for Cold Wars. I will certainly run a 15mm event (as I do not own any 25mm stuff), but would be willing to run 25mm as well if the interest is there. Any suggestions are welcome.clhines4 wrote:I believe that Marc Crotteau is working on getting an event into the Cold Wars book as we speak.honvedseg wrote:If it's not already in the works by this point, it won't go into the printed schedule. Cool beans. My NASAMW membership may have expired, since I missed H-Con last year due to schedules and biz stuff. We may want to start the ball rolling in one scale first, develop some synergy, and then expand into the other popular scale. If 15mm seems to draw the largest # of participants, then I'm good with that. I thought the 25mm game might draw more onlookers, and a way to hook the Warrior/DBx/WAB crowd into taking a stroll with FoG.
Chuck, I'll contact you and rejoin NASAMW, and start the ball rolling for H-Con '08. What's the theme? That might be something to do for a 25mm demo game of FoG, as well as the 'Open Tourney'. Hey, this'll be fun!

I'll be looking forward to FoG at Cold Wars '08. The convention site is just a normal commuting distance down the road from me, so I will definitely be there.
A lot more people have 15mm armies, but 25mm draws the most attention. That's a tough decision, although I'd recommend a 25mm demonstration game purely for its visual impact, regardless of what scale the actual tournament ends up at.

Cold Wars FoG
A 25mm demo game does sound interesting. If only some volunteers could be found . . . .
Apparently the rubber does not start to meet the road for Cold Wars until after the first of the year. I will start a new thread around that time once I get some more details to share.

I'd offer to help run a demo, but there are a few trivial details in the way. First, I'm probably going to buy the rules at the convention, so I won't know anything about them or the exact setup and details of the armies until I'm already there. That doesn't exactly make for a great demo, when the host has nothing prepared in advance, and doesn't even know the rules of the game he's running. Second, my nearly-completed 25mm Assyrians are my sole 25mm army, so I'd need an opposing side. Maybe at a later con.
