4 Madaxeman.com Match Reports Ottomans at Roll Call
4 reports from Roll Call 2012 as the Ottomans get an outing
Unfortunately they end up being "outed" as being rubbish, but hey, never mind....

Excellent after action reports as usual. Most of the lists you mention seem to be missing, though.

yeah... I've lost the bit of paper they were written down on. Whether that's a temporary loss or a permanent loss is yet to be determined, and I'll know once I do a tidy up on my painting/working/storage of part painted figures desk this weekend...!

Hi Tim,
Great reports as ever - I think you may have had more luck against my Henricians!!!
My Ottomans (which I haven't been brave enough to take to a competition yet!) are all Mikes Models and lovely dumpy figures they are!

Yes, highly entertaining but dispiriting for Ottoman army owners.
Why take the Janissaries with bows rather than arquebus? I suppose the extra range makes them more likely to disrupt the enemy before coming to handstrokes, but not much more... in my only game against Ottomans, using Henrician English, my landsknechts attacked an 8-base Janissary unit and were fatally disrupted by arquebus fire; their armour didn't count in melee whereas the Janissaries' swordsmanship did, so 8 Janissaries beat 12 landsknechts with very little loss. Because of this I've bought and painted lots of arquebus-armed Janissaries for my 25mm Ottomans.
Another thing: who makes casualty figures suitable for Ottomans? My 25mm casualties are all ECW which don't look right.

Re: 4 Madaxeman.com Match Reports Ottomans at Roll Call
My thought process was that the extra range would help them (and the army) stand up better to mounted units - they really shouldn't have fought against foot in the open if I'd been vaguely competent. I must admit I'd not thought about the "shot ignores armour in combat" angle, however I didn't expect to see an Irish army anyway!johngl wrote:Yes, highly entertaining but dispiriting for Ottoman army owners.

I concur with this; I watched and 8 stand unit of arquebus armed janissairies stop a 16 stand tercio cold. Melee went on forever. I think the Tercio would have won eventually by casualties, but it's not a sure thing by a long shot.johngl wrote:Yes, highly entertaining but dispiriting for Ottoman army owners.

After much searching, I've found some 25mm Janissary casualties, from The Assault Group. They look just right.

Thanks for the excellent reports, too bad about your Ottomans though. Perhaps next time the Dice Gods will choose to smile upon you
