Intel suggestion (for Panzer Corps 2)

Post by dragos »

I find it a bit unrealistic that you start every battle completely blind to enemy units placement. Before each offensive, there was usually an intelligence gathering operation which involved reconnaisance flights over enemy territory, listening posts etc.

Here is my suggestion for a sequel to, or expansion of, PzC (since it's too much of a change to be implemented in a patch).

Each scenario is a assigned an inteligence value for both sides, which is between 0 - 100. Each unit has an enemy intel equivalent, let's call it "shadow", which is to be displayed in fog of war. Based on intelligence value, an enemy unit is detected at the start of scenario or not (if intel is at 50, then there is a 50% chance that the unit's "shadow" is displayed in fog of war).

Then, once the scenario starts, every time an enemy unit comes intro a friendly unit field of view, its "shadow" is removed. The unit could be at the same spot where intelligence has detected it, or it could have been moved and comes into view earlier, or it has been moved to an unknown position and the "shadow"'s position reveals an empty spot, case in which neither the "shadow" nor the "original" are displayed. If an unit is discovered, but it exits again the field of view of any friendly unit, it's "shadow" remain at the last known position.

I agree with you 100%, intel was pretty much an operating procedure.
My only concern is maintaining balance in the game. Would it become to easy?
Or maybe it could be for general or FM difficulties only.
