Cavalry as a recon unit?

Post by fliegenderstaub »

It is just an idea not to use cavalry as "infantry" but as a recon unit.

I want the cavalry to be able to use the recon move.

My question: Is it possible to reach this goal by modifying the equipment file only and, if yes, what do I have to do? Is it changing the unit class from "0" to "2"?

I hope anybody will know. Thanks in advance! :)

Changing class from 0 to 2 should work.

In 1.10 you could leave the class unchanged and add the "reconmove" trait. After that, Cavalery is an infantery unit with the "reconmove" (more then one move in a turn).

"reconmove" allows any unit to use recon (phased) movement. Or, when applied to recon, it cancels its special trait.

...and by the time you reach Stalingrad you can change the class again to "food".

But by the beginning stages of the war it sounds like they could be pretty useful.

With my faster moving and more heavily armored scout cars, recon cavalry would be one of those novelty units...

...like the Italians.

...just kidding...

...sort of.

Actually I see recon cavalry being rather useful throught the war. More survivable than an actual recon unit especially if you are able to end their move in rough terrain.
