If the Britcon results (or what is known) could be pasted here for those of us who could not make it I (for one) would greatly appreciate it

I came last with an inspired army choice  Most of the time I was ridden over by cuirassiers or Swedish infantry but it was good fun. So, African armies came first and last! Thanks to all the organisers and players.

Cheers

I was led to believe that there were a number of players coming joint 2nd on equal points but that they were separated on countback. Is that true?

Yes, three players tied on 95 points for second.

As they had not all played each other direct comparisons were not possible so they were split using the sum of their opponents scores which is an indication of the difficulty of their draw.

Thanks Hammy.

I understand that John Munro was first on 99 pts, Richard Bodley-Scott, Andy Kitcher and Ben Jones
where all on 95pts.

Ben did play John Munro and got a winning draw (12-8).

John Munroe scored 101 points, Richard, Andy and Ben scored 95.

As Richard, Andy and Ben did not all play each other it is not possible to do direct comparisons which are my preffered method of splitting ties so I looked at the sum of the scores for all of each player's opponents. From memory Richard's opponents scored just over 500 points, Andy's scored 470 or so and Ben's opponents about 420. On that basis Richard had the 'harder' draw and Ben the 'easiest'

Or .... Ben played the best limiting his opponents to only 420.
haha
Can you do a "goal differential?"

Because Ben played John, he gets 101 points so the other five opponents he played only scores 320 or so between them.

For those who would like the full information here it is:

Richard played:
Kevin Johnson - 78 - 9th
Matteo Pasi - 90 - 6th
Don McHugh - 82 - 8th
Stephen Stead - 92 - 5th
Graham Briggs - 75 - 10th
Alasdair Harley - 84 - 7th

Andy played:
Stephen Stead - 92 - 5th
Martin van Tol - 50 - 19th
Alasdair Harley - 84 - 7th
Dave Allen - 64 - 15th
John Munro - 101 - 1st
Tim Porter - 71 - 11th

and Ben played:
Tim Porter - 71 - 11th
Graham Briggs - 75 - 10th
Simon Clarke - 51 - 18th
Martin van Tol - 50 - 19th
Dave Allen 64 - 15th
John Munro - 101 - 1st

Interesting.

It seems I played the people who came 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th. (And was beaten by those who came 5th and 6th).

It felt like something of a rollercoaster ride.

Only one game unfinished, which is great and speaks well for the spirit in which the games were played.

Well, commiserations to Ben anyway. (At least he got to go home early).

I still have to understand If I'm or I'm not happy for the result:
before the start I forcast I could be on 8-9th position and I was 6th (so better than I expected) but after playing all matches on table 1,2 or 3 and losing 8-17 with the winner and winning 21-4 with the second ...... I hoped to some better result at last ;)
Maybe I had to try an "all inn" with Stephen Stead and attach his cautious Swedish brigades as a 10-10 was a bad result.
Next year I'll have to do some better if I want to get a medal :)

Have to say I am very pleased with 8th, as Richard was the only one to take me to the cleaners.

My last game with Matteo went right down to the wire and could have gone either way.

Matteo, in all the excitement of the last game, I forgot to give you a copy of my Sudanese list like I promised. I am happy to post on the forum if you still want the details. I may have to retire it now anyway.
