Problems with too few partisans in PBEM games

Post by Peter Stauffenberg »

I've noticed that partisans appeared very rarely in PBEM games. In games against the AI the partisans appear quite often e. g. in Russia. In v1.03 and earlier we usually saw a partisan every 3-4 turns in Russia. In games against the AI I could sometimes see 2-3 partisans being generated in one turn. Usually 1 partisan per turn and sometimes none.

In our last game with v1.04 we have reached January 1942 after Happycat attacked Russia in early May. So far we haven't seen a single partisan in our PBEM game. That can't be normal.

So what is the decisive factors for generating partisans in e. g. Russia? Why are there so few partisans being generated? Is there a value in the general.txt file I can alter to increase the rate of partisans? I think an average of one partisan every other turn is normal. I know I could be unlucky to get few partisans, but so far I've seen 0 partisans in TOTAL. Not even I can be that unlucky. So I wonder if something is broken with partisan generation.

In a recent PBEM mirror match i was getting few partisans in russia as the allies but seeing a lot more appear as the axis. apparently there is a random factor but no idea what it is.

BTW do tcpip games still lack partisans? If so it is a advantage to the axis.

Partisans were not intended from start but was added as bonus feature to players after alot of requests. They are not meant to be deceisive factor of the war just an extra flavour. Partisans might have been created but when playing PBEM I guess you do not get the popup so they are more hard to spot.

I'm sure the partisans aren't created. We got partisans once and then we got the message. It's easy to spot the partisans because they appear behind enemy lines.

They are there, but it is just a matter of luck and remember all that portion of Russia like the Baltic States and Poland is not actually Russia, so Partisans do not generate there, just in Russia proper.

Yep, partisans are almost a "no show" in PBEM games. :o Strangely, in games against the AI they show up frequently, and sometimes in full corps strength. In my current game with Stauffenberg, nada. Which is not as huge an advantage to the Axis as one would suppose. In fact, killing partisans is a cheap way to get experience for Axis units. And unless they pop up next to a city or resource hex (which should never be unprotected anyway), there's no rush to kill them.
Chance favours the prepared mind.
