Re: Battle of Ortona - Little Stalingrad
Just finished playing...and got it handed to me on a platter! I moved forward slowly with my scouts finding the enemy everywhere! I won the first game but lost about half my units and a Sherman! And that was after taking out nearly 50 paratroop units! Very tough.
Played the second with about half my force, was able to take the first 3 VH's before getting my last unit destroyed.
Maybe add some reinforcements to the second game or maybe decrease the number of units in the first. All those MG's and flame units take a BIG toll, even moving slowly.
Overall, very enjoyable. Will need to run through it a few more times!

Re: Battle of Ortona - Little Stalingrad
Amaris,
Quick follow up to feedback that your map and scenario are totally awesome... the effort you've gone to, to recreate Ortona deserves its own Olympic medal!
I confess, I'm getting cream crackered embarrassingly quickly in the single player version, so I took a look at the two maps in the editor, just to get an idea of what I was up against (SPOILER ALERT: Do Not Read If You Don't Want to Know: ok, not a complete spoiler because I won't reveal everything, but 30 German paras and 8 flamethrowers for BOTH the first AND the second map. OUCH! You don't take prisoners, do you, lol?)... I feel Ortona must be played a few times (many times
) to learn where the German placement and AI deficiencies are... The chances of surviving both with two Shermans feel non existent... at least for me, but I'm no Patton, sadly.
Meanwhile, I noted your comment about somebody else having a go at adapting this for MP... Do you mind if I try? I'm halfway through modifying your two map Ortona as a single game 50-turn epic for multiplayer, force selection. If that works, I'll break it out into two or three sub-maps, the way that you've done, to indicate progress northwards, but first off, your efforts deserved turning into something grander... MP play will take awhile to complete, but it will feel like one heck of an accomplishment if the Canadian makes it...
Would you prefer me to PM you when I'm done on a first draft? Or just put it up here? Happy to do either way. I'm really grateful for your amazing work, Amaris!!

Once the author is happy with it, and it has had enough playtesting, we can host it up on the user content board. The next update will provide the ability for authors to host 'beta' versions that even iPad users will be able to test.iprop wrote:When will this be available for the Ipad community

Well, I know that we tend to only throw them scraps, so I wanted to be sure they were aware of my largesse
It took a while to come up with a system where it's reasonably easy for people to host and share content without (a) forcing people to use iTunes to move files around or (b) having to enter too many URLs by hand.
Cheers

Re: Battle of Ortona - Little Stalingrad
Amaris,
Forgive me, I so totally love your map that I just couldn't wait... I've released a draft multiplayer version of Ortona (Little Stalingrad) here -> viewtopic.php?f=105&t=36585&p=344046#p344046
Please take a look and let me know what you think. I confess, I've taken a few small liberties with force selection so that the elite German paras don't totally stomp on the poor regular Canadian infantry. If you'd like me to remove it, please PM me, and I'd be happy to take it down.
Thank you again for this incredible scenario!

Re: Battle of Ortona - Little Stalingrad
First this mini campaign needs to be balance before an 'official release', and be available through User's Content (necessary for IPAD.)
I think that the current mission is too hard, except for the strongest players. I think making a script that will add reinforcements if the losses are too great. And make a new achievement: win without reinforcements.
That said I succeeded without too much loss. Well ok i know it very well!
A few more tips:
- Do not stay on the roads!
- The Priest is very deadly and usefull to break the enemy strong points.
- Take yours time! No run! The scenario's lenght is not for nothing.
- Do not shoot everything you see! Use your scouts to locate the enemy. Concentrate your forces on an enemy unit to neutralize it, and move to the next.
- Keep shermans behind the infantry! And use them to support it.
@ GottaLove88s: you are fast! Great! I will try to take a look but I'm pretty busy. But why not test this in game? Please send me a PM if you are interessed to play with me on your MP map.

I have to agree with a few of the other posts - I am getting creamed (2 tries) but will take the advice of Amaris and see if I can change my luck. I will advise as to my luck, great board, thanks for all the effort.

Re: Battle of Ortona - Little Stalingrad
Still alive but still over busy.
I'm working on a new version of Ortona with BA - 2.0.6.
I think adding bonus reinforcements; this will call for reinforcements, but also to choose it (infantry, tanks, ...)
I think also make a small point system to determine the type of victory. Of course reinforcements called will be taken into account.

Re: Battle of Ortona - Little Stalingrad
Release of v2!
V2
A reinforcement system was added:

From third turn you can call in reinforcements if the battle is too hard. You can request reinforcements every turn and up to three times.Reinforcements arrive the next turn.
This is a two scenarios campaign with carry over system.
Inspired but not realistic/historical scenario
Download: http://amaris-games.com/ba-amaris/scenarios/ortona/
Install: Unzip the Amaris_Ortona_V2.zip into the My Documents\My Games\BBCBA\Campaigns folder.
Side: Commonwealth (Canada)
Lenght: 25 turns for each parts.
Size: 32x64.
Missions: Capture VPs.
Background: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Ortona
Notes:
- With carryover's system it's very difficult to success the two part of the mission. This is a mission for grognard
- You must go slowly, use yours scouts to discover the ennemy ; urban fighting is deadly.
Force Selection:

Initial Start:

Part 1.

Part 2.
Comments, feedbacks and suggestions are welcome

Any chance a .lst file could be created for this game? I have been looking forward in playing this since you first posted about it....
Re: Battle of Ortona - Little Stalingrad
Yup, I too would want a link to that file so I can install on the iPad.

Re: Battle of Ortona - Little Stalingrad
Thanks for the prompt, Amaris... I've made Ortona MP available for iPad as follows... All credit goes to Amaris for his incredible mapwork... Have fun gents!

Ok guys,
1. Run BA on your Mac, PC or iPad
2. Choose Campaigns (at the bottom)
3. Choose Download Community Scenarios (at the top)
4. Choose Download a Campaign Package from the Internet (top right)
5. Type http://bit.ly/BA88ortona into the URL box
6. Click the green tick
7. Back at the campaigns list, select "Ortona MP" and click Download the Selected Campaign (bottom centre)
8. This should download everything that you need
9. Go back to the first page of BA and choose Multiplayer
10. Log in to Multiplayer as normal
11. Either go to the My Challenges tab and create a New Challenge. This list will now show the Ortona MP...
12. Or go to the Accepts Challenges tab and look for an opponent...
After all that, you can play Ortona MP on any platform... Phew!!

Re: Battle of Ortona - Little Stalingrad
Amaris, I completed the first part of the campaign.
Then I was carried to the beginning the second scenario, but I just have two Sherman and a Priest to deploy, is this normal?
I've the game saved on the last turn of the first scenario.
