Thanks for the vote of confidence Dave but with my head full of FoGR and my planned practice at Roll Call sunk without trace I suspect I'll be an also ran - the army is pretty dodgy too.

Good to see lots of variety though - should be good fun.

1 - Shaun as even though I struggle with the though of Swiss winning he is the top seed and he has won his last 3 competitions with this army.

2 - Ian again has he has tasted numerous successes with this army.

Swiss make a perverted sense. You figure several rounds. The english have been seeing lots of timed out games in their comps. You crush a noob. You get a winning draw against a strong player. Then you have a tangle with a top player and hope superior pikes grind them out and you are top of the heap. I think his challenge is do his foes just table sit him to draws. History is if that happens he's next likely to get someone his skill will prevent that from happening and he crushes them. He pops up in the score and he's got a solid foe that he needs to beat.

In particular Matt Iverson, who came either 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the med period and brought his laptop over so he could finish off his FOG-pc games and yep he won the Dark Ages division.

Congratulations to Matt Iverson for a well deserved win in the Medieval section!

And well done to Nobby and the rest of the team for hosting another great Britcon.

Having not played A&M for nearly a year I was hoping for a kind draw but it wasn't to be. When I sat down for my 6th game I realised that at that point I had played the 5 other leading players in the competition. Despite beating Olivier 16-9 in my first game he staged an excellent comeback to secure 2nd place - well done.

Thanks to Matt, Olivier, John Patrick, and the trio of Davids - Fairhurst, Handley & Ruddock for 6 excellent games and for helping me knock the rust off. And thanks to Jim Gibson for lending me the figures to field the Moldavians for the first time ever.

Commiserations to Shaun Drummond for making such a long journey with an army which struggled on most of their match-ups. Don't let it put you off!

I didn't kill or lose a single General all tournament.

I only had 2 so did use them to fight but most of my opponents had 4 and all used them to fight, so I probably averaged at least 12 rolls per game

I did however spend 8 of my turns with only one general on the table.

If my cavalry had amphibious capability they would have got on table!

But no, I learnt my lesson. Just the one flank march, across an edge with zero terrain, that didn't want to roll a 9.

Now that I'm finally back in the states and recovering, I wanted to thank some of the people who made this weekend such a great experience. Alan, David C., Dave R., Peter R., Pete D., and Olivier for six fun and challenging games. Phil for organizing the pre-tourney warm up games, and Phil, Spike and Rob for playing. Bob Amey for introducing me to Chinese hot pots, and of course Nobby and Hammy for putting all this together.

It was great to see old friends and make new ones. Congrats to Olivier and Guillaume who were both close on my tail. If I recall correctly, I was a die roll away from being passed by them and many others.

As always, its better to be lucky than good. I hope to see everyone again soon.

Yes it was called the Han Dynasty which sounded good for no particular culinary reason! You got a saucepan sized bowl of soup for cooking in, like a fondue and then everybody put raw meat onto a BBQ in the middle - receipt for salmonella!!
