Questions about units

Post by duncan »

I was looking at the units description and some questions arised...

1.) Scouts: are they going to determine how much do you know about the enemy army in the pre-battle deploy screen, as in previous game? If so and scouting is important...does any of the units have scouting abilities (skirmishers, velites)?

2.) What's the statistical difference between hastatii and principes? They seem to have the same stats (except denarii)

3.) Shouldn't be Hastatii, Principes and Triarii be the same unit (only more experienced)?

4.) Campaign scenario list shows punic wars for the romans (and hellenic wars...). will those nations get their own units? What will they be (even if they're not recruitable)?

5.) For the non-english speaking like me, what is concuss (in game terms, I mean)?

>>> There is no scouting in Legion Arena.

2.) What's the statistical difference between hastatii and principes? They seem to have the same stats (except denarii)
>>> Princepes have better stats, but the descriptive terms used are too granular to differentiate them.

3.) Shouldn't be Hastatii, Principes and Triarii be the same unit (only more experienced)?
>>> They have different equipment & fighting styles. E.g. Triari did not have a throwing spear, instead a heavy thrusting spear which they used in melee rather than a sword.

4.) Campaign scenario list shows punic wars for the romans (and hellenic wars...). will those nations get their own units? What will they be (even if they're not recruitable)?
>>> Other nations will have units named correctly, but the artwork will be based on existing units. They might use a different texture variation, but have the same underlying model & be called "Hoplites".

5.) For the non-english speaking like me, what is concuss (in game terms, I mean)?
>>> There are two types of damage, normal & concuss. Normal damage is reduced by the armour of the target. Concuss damage bypasses armour. E.g. a medieval knights sometimes used a mace because it was effective against armoured targets.

Concuss

Post by honvedseg »

I believe the term "cuncuss" is an abbreviation of "concussion", which would be characteristic of a club, mace, or hammer.

Actually, many of the ancient and medieval longswords were only sharp on one edge. The sharp edge was effective against unarmored or lightly protected opponents, while the other edge was better used against opponents wearing metal armor. Using the sharp side against metal armor could either notch the blade or even cause the sword to break. The dull side of the blade could crease plate armor or drive metal rings through the underlying padding and into the skin.

If people were always nice to each other they probably wouldn't be interested in games about violence. More likely games would all be about sex or farming, but hopefully no combination between the two

Sim Farm is a classic! One of the things I liked about some of the old Maxis games was that they were inter-connected with other games. For example, you could build a badass city in Sim City 2000, and then cruise around it/blow it up in Sim Copter or in Streets of Sim City.

Hey, here's an idea! Be a farmer in one of your cities in Legion II! Wait, mass slave labor isn't pc? Okay I guess it's not such a good idea
