German version???? How to change the language????

Just bought FoG and installed it and updated it and...it's all in German...

I'm German and I'm located in Germany but I don't want to play any game translated to German - and I don't see any option to change the language...

Some things are translated, some things not, when I load a custom scenario that's in English, the rest in German and the German translation sounds - as usual in games - weird. I can't play and enjoy the game this way!

What to do about that????

Were you given an option when you installed the game to choose the language? It might be that a reinstall will sort it out - unless it is a German retail version in which case it might be locked to German as part of the license.

No, I didn't buy it from a German retailer - first because I want to give you guys the money directly
second I can only buy a German version via the retailer and that's what I didn't want. Now the big surprise when I started the game and all is in German... Oo

I don't remember any option to choose the language...when I clicked on the buy button it sent me to the Plimus site and I paid via credit card and then got the serial number for the download.

Just to make sure I didn't miss a possible language option I started the install process again up to the point where it comes to actually install it (then I quit because I didn't want to download all the patches again, that took some time) - there's no language option that I can see.

And as I said due to the language mix and the weird words chosen (it may be a word by word translation but these terms are uncommon to me and sound just wrong) and the fact that I always learn and play wargames with the original rules I can't play the game. It's extremely confusing to learn the game by the English manual and then have no matching terms in the game itself, that doesn't work. And there was no note when I bought the game that this is a German only version. It would have been cheaper for me to buy the German version via amazon, but that's not what I wanted. So now the game sits here, I have my last few free days before getting back into my job and I can't play it. There are only two options I see: either I get my money back or I get a download option for the English version - the latter is what I would prefer of course.

So come on guys, I don't want to waste my time sitting here, I would like to get into the game - can't be that difficult to give me another download option, hm?

Assuming you're running the game on some version of Windows, I think the install probably uses your system locale to determine the language for FoG when it does the install. You might try temporarily changing your system locale (and display language if you can) to English and then do the new install. Changing the system locals after FoG is installed changes the language in autorun but not in the actual game. Once you have don ethe install, you should be able to change your system language/locale settings back to German. Something similar might work on a MAC but I have to plead ignorance there.

Hi Chris,

thanks for the reply but this doesn't work either because I am running Windows Home Premium and changing language is only possible with Ultimate. I can't get any Language Packs or even LIPs to work, so I need a different solution.

Btw I don't have this problem with Battle Academy or some other games like Time of Fury or The Operational Art of War I bought via Matrix Games. So why this trouble with FoG?

OK, so there are two possible options:

1 - change the language setting in the Region and Language Options in the control panel, if this is available.

2 - go to the FoG install folder, then into the Resources folder. Delete the de.mo file and then the game should start in English. You might want to back the file up first in case of any problems.

Hopefully one of those two will work for you .

I installed the game again and at the end of the installation process it said (in German) 'preparing German installation', was just a second or so to see...so I chose option 2 and deleted the de.mod file and the game runs in English. Currently downloading all the patches again, but it seems it will work now as it should.
