81mm & 50mm German mortar stats
We have icons for these mortar units that will fit both Axis and Allied sides and now an SdKfz 250 carrying the 81mm mortar thanks to PUMA. Anyone have any ideas or information about stats on this type of weapon to put it to use in the game or scenarios?
Old Timer Panzer General fan. Maybe a Volksturm soldier now. Did they let Volksturm drive Panzers?

They're really not suited for the game but we may be able to fit them in.
Max strength should be small. Let's start at 6
Close defense 0
50mm range zero
1 HA
3 SA
81 MM
Range 2
1 HA
3 SA
They were basically support units.

Re: 81mm & 50mm German mortar stats
I think the 50mm (and 2") mortars should be part of the regular inf stats.
I use 8cm, 12cm, 3" and 4.2" company units (with Puma's Mörser icons) in a a custom battalion Market-Garden campaign I am working on.
This works nicely, especially for the Germans which often lack 'proper' artillery in this campaign.
I have assigned movement = 2 for the 81mm/8cm/3" and movement = 1 for the heavier mortars.
What I miss is the distinctive sound of the mortars and proper fire graphics.
Maybe I will purchase Battle Academy and borrow the mortar sounds...

RSM Redux has one mortar sound. And the version of Redux in USMC campaign has another mortar. And my DMP version of Redux has a 120mm.Erik wrote: Maybe I will purchase Battle Academy and borrow the mortar sounds...
Re: 81mm & 50mm German mortar stats
Thanks, but what I am looking for is a file with the characteristic launching click followed by the explosion. It is really distinct from regular artillery sounds much like some rocket launches.VPaulus wrote:RSM Redux has one mortar sound. And the version of Redux in USMC campaign has another mortar. I have Battle Academy for the iPad and the mortar sound there is perfect. Click-click...bang-bang.
Re: 81mm & 50mm German mortar stats
In BA, just like in PzC, the explosion is not the same as the launching. So you'll need two files.
Anyway you can only use the launch sound in PzC, because the damage sounds are hardcoded. You also need to create the animation files for the sounds. I don't know those Puma units, but maybe you can use one of the originals.

Aha, I see.
Currently I have just copied one of the artillery settings and it works OK, but I have to adjust the off marks in the animation.
I'll see if I can get hold of the launch sound.
Thank you.
BTW, I really like the Redux package.

Re: 81mm & 50mm German mortar stats
Thanks. But have you heard the ija_mortar sound in the USMC campaign? Basically it's the sound you're looking. It's a sound of a real 80mm mortar being launch. If you just want the click I can edit for you, or if you want to tone it down, it's also possible.Erik wrote: BTW, I really like the Redux package.
But if you really love the sound of BA, just go for it.
