1809 Austrian List

Post by Douglas »

I'm sure this question has been asked already, but I didn"t see it on the Triumph of Nations errata list.
On the Austrian 1809 list the Hungarian Line Infantry says---bases per unit is 6, but the Minimum bases is 4. What is right?

Thanks

I believe thay both may be correct.

The large size of Hungarian units is consistent with the other Austrian 1809 lists and is probably to represent the large size of Hungarian battallions (even a regiment fielding only 2 battalions could qualify as a large unit). The minima of 4 seems inconsitent at first sight. However, if it was increased to 6 then it would mean that when importing a division from this list into another corp you would still have a minima above zero after applying the adjustments on p.179 for fielding single divisions in another corps, which would make a Hungarian regiment compulsory. This would seem a bit unreasonable when you consider that there were only about 15 Hungarian regiments. A minimum of 4 on the other hand means you do need not need to field a Hungarian regiment when fielding only a single division (since the minima would be reduced to zero by p.179), but do need to field at least one Hungarian regiment when fielding a whole corps from the Austrian Army of the Danube 1809.
