I want to ask how does strategic bombing work?
For example many strategies say to bomb London with Germans STR in 1940. For me even with 2 bombers I am unable to reduce the city considerably. Maybe I am having just bad luck but I hotseated it a little and I don't see German STRats having statistically much better results.
My question is how strategic bombardment work? You can see some value shown when bombing object even if it's production is not reduced. What is that? And when city production/rail capacity is reduced?

Re: Strategic bombing
Every city and every port has a full strength of 10-steps. When you bomb or attack a city and see a number flash you're seeing the number of steps damage. For example, if a city is at fully strength and you bomb it and see a 3 flash, you've reduced that city from 10 to 7-steps. No each city has a production number (e.g., 2). The output for a city is round((current_strength/10)*production). So, in this example the production would be = round (2*7/10) = round (1.4) = 1. If this city is a core city then the production you receive from it is 1 x %_war_effort/100. So if you had 120% war effort you'd get 1.2 PP's. If this city is a captured city you get half of that value which would be 0.6 PP's. For cities with rail the same calculations apply using the rail points assigned to the city except that rail is NOT multiplied by war effort. Now I'm not sure on this; but I think rail is also NOT halved if captured. But; I definitely could be wrong on that. With respect to oil, the value of oil points is round(4 x the PP production of the city x (war effort % / 100) x (strength of city / 10)). This is halved if captured.Kragdob wrote:My question is how strategic bombardment work? You can see some value shown when bombing object even if it's production is not reduced. What is that? In 1940 it takes a sustained campaign to reduce London. That's one of the downsides in addition to the oil you burn. The upside is that the Brits at this stage of the war don't get a lot of PP's and if you can deny them London then you deny them 6 to 7 PP's per turn (i.e., for a 60 to 70% war effort). And if your u-boats are doing a number on their convoys; then they are really feeling the pinch.Kragdob wrote:I want to ask how does strategic bombing work?

I thought that you only get additional rail points in specific cases, like Paris or Moscow? For cities with rail the same calculations apply except that rail is NOT multiplied by war effort. Now I'm not sure on this; but I think rail is also NOT halved if captured
Re: Strategic bombing
The amount of rail points a city gives is shown separately from its production. You're right that only a select number of cities yield rail points. If only 1 number is shown for a city (which is true for the overwhelmingly majority of cities on the map), then that city does NOT yield any rail.Cybvep wrote:I thought that you only get additional rail points in specific cases, like Paris or Moscow? For cities with rail the same calculations apply except that rail is NOT multiplied by war effort. To be less confusion (if that's possible
Re: Strategic bombing
Thank you very much for the explanation. How fast is recovery from the damage?
Say in your example city lost 3 strength after my bombardment - how much strength will opponent experience in his subsequent turn? (say: turn 15, Axis bombed 3 from London, how much strength will London have on Allied turn 15)

Re: Strategic bombing
If it's any help I played a game where Lorraine was bombed on the first turn, lost a production point and then got it back when the allied first turn started.
In spite of the Final Fantasy character it's pronounced sao-win after the Irish pagan god of death. I'm not a pagan but we're on a wargames website so I thought it fitting.
