initiative hero, tank and close terrain initiative cap

Post by m4121c »

I just got initiative hero for my infantry
I upgraded this guy to Fallschirmjäger
and boy
this baby rock in close combat almost taking no damage at all

just curious though

is the initiative hero for tanks will be redundant because of the terrain initiative cap, or the hero bonuses will be added after the cap
I haven't got any yet, that's why I can't really test them

thanks

Thats a good question, fortunately I have a captured KV with an initiative hero in my 43 campaign and attacked some fortified troops to find out. According to the combat log his initiative bonus of 2 was added to the cap of 3 giving him a total of 5 so it does help in close terrain too.
Agree with the initiative bonus for troops, it makes them very powerful

The bonus from initiative heroes always apply after cap/exp calcuations. So yes, an INI hero on a tank helps them fight infantry in close terrain, but it is unlikely you'll have enough INI to be able to better than 43 infantry.

Note also that initiative hero bonuses apply in snow/rain too, and that can make a huge difference since the INI for all units is capped at 1 regardless of terrain. A +3 INI hero is huge when operating in bad weather.

Thanks for the help :)
that's quite an interesting result here

always though that +attack is better than +initiative
but with this new info, I could put more priorities for initiative
(usually cheating for a bit, always reload whenever I got +spotting, better to get anything else but that)
lol

I like having a Spotting hero in armor and air units. With other units, though, I agree--no one other than the AI would spot with an artillery unit, even if it did have a bonus!

I love spotting bonuses. Three of the best units I have had were:

SS Gj infantry, spotting, movement +1, attack +3 (obviously this was late in the GC when three bonuses had been earned).
Tank spotting is SO helpful in GC '44 and '45 when you are stretched thin and the Russians are everywhere. Used carefully, it can save you the need for an extra unit on the battle line.

Air spotting on tactical air is very useful, too. I got one on a stuka. I upgraded it to a Bf110. By late in the GC it was an ME 410 that could loiter forever, spot a huge swath of the map, and kill like no one's business (nice attack bonus later).

Love spotting bonuses.
