Question : are we allowed to charge a BG in a wood for instance if the only solution to charge is to contract into a single column to get extra MU to reach it.

IIRC charges can only change formation by dropping one file back to avoid friends. In short I am pretty sure that charges in any other situation cannot change formation.

I also think that in order to get the 1MU bonus move you need to be in column to start with but could be wrong.
