Using Photoshop for new Images

I have been able to find a DDS converter. Has anyone used anything like that to convert images that they created for the game using Photoshop? If so what were your results?

The software that uses native DDS format is expensive from what I have seen. Photoshop -> convert file to DDS seems to work but I have yet to really try it out for a new "in-game" image like a vehicle. Has anyone gone this route.

Note: I use Adobe Photoshop Essentials. It came with my last two PCs and has (so far) worked out just fine for other projects. Eventually I want to get a new PC that has Win 7 Pro/Ultimate (or Win 8 same type versions) with Photoshop CS5 or better as that combo can use more than 2-4GB of RAM. I have 8 but Win XP 64 only goes up to 4. My ver. of Photoshop can only use 2 GB. It does restrain me at times when I use huge map overlay files that easily hit that ceiling ...

There is a free plugin for Photoshop from Nvidia. http://www.nvidia.com/content/devzone/index.html Links at bottom 32 & 64 bit
Its just been put back up as a link since the Nvida Developers site got hacked, a few weeks ago.
I use it with PS Elements and it appears to work OK with the very very limited modelling I have done so far, which to be honest was a year or so ago, as I'm still trying to get the Fragmotion exporter working.
