You may not be able to stop tanks but it's pretty easy to supress them and give them the runaround with mortar/bombard fire once you spot them. Conversely it's quite easy to hide mortars in forests/buildings and Priests/Wespes at the back of the map out of harms way.IainMcNeil wrote:Its very easy to stop mortars hurting tanks but I think the way it works is fine. How many tanks have you seen stopped by a mortar fire in the game?

But that is how they work in reality.Slowbius wrote:Priests/Wespes at the back of the map out of harms way.

Well, in the new Redux scenarios it can be that the allies have 2 mobile artillery units (e.g. Priests) and 2 mortar teams .. the poor old Tiger has no chance. As soon as it pokes its nose out it is bombed into submission.
Personally I don't want to play games where my very expensive tanks can be neutralised so easily and in a non-historical manner.
Why not give the players the option of turning these sorts of game effects on or off as part of MP game setup (i.e. let us decide whether we think it is fine or not) ?

Too many in all honestly. It just seems a gamey tactic and yes, I have used it myself after having it done to my tanks in past games. But I'm glad to see my original post has started off interesting posts by other forum members. There are aspects of the game which can't be changed, even if the players wanted them done but at the same time it's good to discuss on the forum bits that can be changed and read both sides of the argument. This is what keeps the game alive and at the same time, keeps the message board alive and kickingIainMcNeil wrote:Its very easy to stop mortars hurting tanks but I think the way it works is fine. It's not so much about killing Tigers or King Tigers with mortars, it's often just enough to insure they remain below 50 morale point so they aren't rampaging about, destroying everything. If you can succeed in keeping the Tiger in the Brit Airborne, Market Garden scenario from fighting, you will probably win, fail and you likely lose. A combination of infantry satchel charges, Piat, anti-tank gun, and mortars gets it below 50, mortars can then be used to keep it out of the fight. Since we know what the actual outcome of this action was, suppressing the Tiger and winning the battle is really an anomaly.
I'm sure most Tiger crews were comprised of the best veterans available. While I'm certain having mortars going off all around you was disconcerting, if not terrifying inside of WWII tanks (particularly the earlier, more lightly armored type), it seems likely a veteran, motivated Tiger crew, knowing themselves relatively impervious to mortar rounds would likely keep fighting rather than stop. They should be much less affected than, APCs, etc, which can be damaged or destroyed by mortar fire.
