How long can it take it to do an installer? Not like it's their first one. Some kind of nominal fee would be OK with me if it lit a fire.

The problem is that Slitherine halted work on GS v2.1 because they have to get another game out the door. This is a new commercial game.

The downside to a free expansion like GS is that we get lower priority at Slitherine. I can understand that because they have to make a living and get games they can make money on out to the market. Unfortunately GS v2.1 won't generate much extra sale for CeaW since most players already have it. So Slitherine are supporting GS v2.1 as a service to those who previously purchased CeaW.

They can make the GS v2.1 installer when they have free time from commercial projects. This other project should be completed this week so we hope Slitherine will resume work on GS v2.1 soon.

Yup, when you are getting something for free you are on someone else's time line.
Slitherine has a lot of irons in the fire right now, so to say.
We should all be happy about that!!!

I second the motion that Slitherine charge for these updates. There's no such thing as a free lunch. Businesses have to get a return from their activities or they cease to exist. As a customer I expect to pay for value received, and I'd rather pay $10 or $20 for an upgrade as opposed to waiting months for engineering downtime.

... and in a well-run company, there's no such thing as "downtime".

Really the vanilla should be free and the upgrades cost. I'm tired of waiting too but it's not so bad because I know it will be free, will come along soon and will be worth the wait.
In spite of the Final Fantasy character it's pronounced sao-win after the Irish pagan god of death. I'm not a pagan but we're on a wargames website so I thought it fitting.

You have to remember that without the vanilla game we could not have made GS. We're using the vanilla game engine. Actually when Slitherine is selling CeaW people get both the vanilla game and GS. This is one reason it takes awhile for Slitherine to make the installer. They also need to update the vanilla CeaW they distribute with GS v2.1.
