AA fire in Meeting Engagement? Any success anyone?

Post by GottaLove88s »

Has anyone ever shot down a US fighter-bomber with a Wirbelwind self-propelled AA in the new Meeting Engagement scenario? I wondered if the anti-aircraft skill of the Wirbelwind has been implemented in Meeting Engagement? I often choose Wirbelwinds but I've never yet shot down a fighter-bomber in this scenario (despite being bombed many, many times). Opponent just had the cheek to bomb the Wirbelwind itself... Guess who won that one? Hint: It wasn't the anti-aircraft gun, which is sadly now deceased. :-(

Hi Jon. Yes, I have noticed that the AA is not as effective as it usually is. When you are playing a single player and try that crap...It would be handed to you..;)
They were lethal. I am playing another match on the Merr random map...and enemy made a strafing run and was not too far off the mark(line) of my Wirblewind and it didnt do anything. Luckily he did not really hit anything. Pip??
Also, nice match we got going. I think about the only thing needed in your map....Is to be able to delay initial Arty...and to see if anyway to get the troops closer(or just mount them) in the Halftracks...other wise...not bad. It will be nice when they Come out with a "Eastern Front" Version...love the Russian Front. ;)
Have you heard of any other maps Jon?? Take Care and see you on the battlefield.

Thanks Pip, Will see how it goes with the other games. I usually take a Wirbelwind AA because the Allies do a lot of bombing, but I can't remember EVER shooting down a US fighter-bomber in Meeting Engagement. I guess your "did you shoot it down" calculations include an element of "how good is the fighter-bomber", which by the 1944 scenario date were a heck of a lot better than the Stukas which seem to get shot down >50% of the time in the single player and Desert Rats scenarios...

You are correct. The chance to shoot them down is a combo of the AAVulnerable value in the CORE/CARDS/CARDS.TXT file for each bonus airstrike. The Stuka is very much more shoot-down-able than most of the other airstrikes. The 262 is very tough to shoot down!

Remember though that masses AA gets to sum all its AA power, meaning you will increase your chances with >1 AA unit.

Cheers
