army list books & references

Post by madaxeman »

Will there be a bibliography, or a "further reading" list for the army list books?

I guess there will be some references to Osprey publications, and it always strikes me taht wargames lists are massive compilations of research, with no reference whatsoever to where it came from

Mainly there will be references to Osprey books.

Army lists are not published as academic works and we are very much aiming at a popular market with FoG, so an extensive bibliography would be inappropriate and impracticable. And as you say, the lists are massive compilations of research - a short bibiliography would not do them justice. Moreover, sadly, much of the information used is not available in convenient book form. If only it was.

Tim,

If you are interested I can give you a list of the books I went through while sorting out the Medieval Welsh list. To be honest if you are interested I would be willing to lend you them all (I think there are five of them). The rea problem is that even with five books on Medieval Welsh warfare there are perhaps 20-30 pages that are of much use for army lists :(

I can give you quite a long list of references for various lists/books if you are serious about doing some sort of wargamers reference. Would you want academic articles as well?
