BA Doesnt work after Latest Patch

Patch problems.
I reinstalled my copy recently after updating to Win 7. I had a ver 1.6 installer. It seemed to be working properly. I recently downloaded and installed the new patch and it failed to update the game sayiong I have to reinstall the game. I downloaded the patch again and installed it. I received the same message.

Can you give me the exact error you are getting, and when in the update process you are seeing it. The patch should just install onto any version of the game, so it's odd you are having issues.

You are using the downloaded 2.0.4 installer?

Hi there,

I have the same problem: used to run v1.8 absolutely fine, but when I updated to v2.04 (using the installer/file from the Slitherine site), I get a CRC error.
You mentioned on the Matrix Tech Support site that installing the original game might help, but for some reason the link to the original download I used when I bought the game last year is no longer active (was: Your download link: http://www.plimus.com/jsp/dlapp.jsp?ref ... 6C24220030)

Can you direct me to that link or - ideally - help me with getting the v2.04 running in the first place?

The exact error message is "Install CRC error. Try reinstalling the game to fix this issue"
As per above: where do I find a 'clean' version of the original game? Ideally would like to avoid massive downloads as my bandwidth / monthly data allowance is limited.

Can you guys tell me the path that you have the game installed to. It might be relevant.

In my case: \Program Files\Battle Academy (my default path)

That said, I have now temporarily deleted the installation, awaiting further instructions

Do you have any expansions installed on your machine? Also, did you update to Windows 7 from XP with the game installed?

Afraid no and no to both questions.

Shall I try to re-install the original full version and try to run the 2.04 patch on that?

Could you send me the download link in that case, as the link originally provided by matrix games to download the game is no longer working and on your site I only seem to be able to download patches and the demo?

If you navigate to the install folder and open the Patchnotes.rtf file, does it contain the 2.0.4 update information?

Can you check that the folder pointed to by your desktop shortcut is in fact the correct install folder (there should be a BBCBA.TXT file in the install folder containing your serial number).

Can you check that you do not have 2 Battle Academy type folders in your Program Files/Slitherine folder - in case it is an issue with installing over much older versions. It's very strange to have 2 people with issues when we have not had this reported before.

I installed Win 7 over an install of Vista. As you mentioned I have two installs. My desktop shortcut is pointing to the correct file. They are installed on my J: disk in folder battlefield academy\Battle Academy (matches the shortcut, and BBCBA.txt file) and J:\battlefield academy\Battlefield Academy. I had the France expansion installed.

So what do you recommend that I do now? Thanks!

I think we are going to need to get you guys new installer files. I will get the guys to sort it out. I think that the update of the OS might have jiggered the registry in some way.

OK, so I cleansed my registry from all entried relating to 'Battle Academy' and completely deleted all files from all Battle Academy folders. Bit of a radical approach, but I wanted to play the game today.

Problem is that when I now install Patch v2.04 I get an error message though - somewhat predictable - that "the installer cannot install the upgrade patch because the programme being upgraded may be missing..."

That gets me back to my other question: where can I find a link to the latest (or any) previous FULL version of Battle Academy, so that I can download that and then (hopefully!) run v2.04 to subsequently upgrade. Should have kept v1.8 I suppose, but hindsight is a nice thing to have of course...
