That's precisely what the Syrian camels are saying to each other on the picket line!

Are we still waiting for our significant announcement, or has it happened and I missed it?

JDM mentioned an announcement being finalised as he typed on Tuesday.

Sadly nothing further has been mentioned.

We can all relax. There is no point in jumping up and down. First JD doesn't care that we jump up and down. Second they will when they are ready. The WORST choice would be to rush out a piece with lots of problems.

The possible reasons for delay are:

evens odds: they're more focused on something that is actually going to make them money rather than break even at best.

2-1 against: a Barolo incident.

4-1 against: Alzheimers

10-1 against: waiting for Osprey/printers/the ship from SE Asia to arrive, etc.

It'll most likely be a bit of all 4 and it'll arrive in a little while. The authors, after all, were finished working on this months ago.

I think the longer term concern for the ancients rule set would be the lack of a hand at the tiller. The McNeils haven't played figure games for years, and so won't be that interested. The authors have mostly moved on to other periods and interests. So there's a bit of a vacuum.

it is very hard for any business or enterprise to have multiple interests. It is all very time consuming. Getting something done rigth requires command focus. The way large organzations do many things is distributed decision making. A small enterprise focuses on the things that interest them and things that make them money. The challenge is to create a succession so when a principle changes focus, the successor bring new energy and maintains it. The failure to do that is why most businesses, charities and such ahve what is called "founder syndrome" and fail when the founder moves on.

ok does it all mean...bye bye?

should we all move on to other rules and split up?

Saga?
impetus?
7th edition?

i do not want to....

FOGA brought good ideas and momentum to tabletop...

maybe it should be split from the computer part of the company?

Tabletop and computer are different, and do rarely match.

i was a tabletop gamer, then had my computer games time where i abandoned tabletop, i a few years ago restarted tabletop, and stopped computer game as it is difficult to do both....

i guess it must be the same for the autors, you cannot do both.

The computer version of FOG has already begun proceedings to split from the tabletop rules. The founders of digital FOG, Matrix and Hexwar, have handed over the rights to the game to a new Romanian company headed by a former player. The new guy has plenty of ideas of his own where digital FOG should be going in the future, which probably mean diverting from the restrictions of the tabletop rules and implementing the full power of the computer to its best utility and usage. He is calling it FOG v2.0 but whether it will take account of the new tabletop v2.0 rules he has not divulged so far. We are all waiting with baited breath and eagerness to see what the nrew FOG-digital game has install for us.

These are exciting times (at least for the computer crowd).

Interesting i imagine one is either encouraged (new energy / new ideas) or discouraged (abandonment of the old structure) depending on your preconceived views. I think there is a big challenge in today's world of keeping a system vibrant. The computer world I think it is very hard not to keep having upgrades. It is the business model and well as the technology. The table top is somewhat different. The type of player and installed base (lead) does not want rapid changes.

So...with the announcement I wonder..

Break with osprey?

Unhappy lgs? It's where I play my games.....and what they can sell matters....one local store is pushing NAW as figs are sold with the rules......not even sure if he is stocking fogn although I made a point to order my copy there....very few stores stock ancients, none in my town as they move off the shelf slowly. If I'm an owner certainly fog players may have trouble getting tables versus the fow, wh40k crowd or others....

Certainly I'm happy to have rules on the iPad, and have a copy of force on force from osprey as well as dbm 3.2....however us gaming is different than the uk.....it's mostly at the lgs.....

Interesting times.

I think the stated 'moving with the times' rationale is entirely plausible. ANyone see mention of a specific date or the 'more detail on the main FoG site' stated in the press release?
