There are many things that could, and probably will be improved on the editor, this is a report of my opinion about it.
There are different approaches to designing scenarios:
- the easy way, just use the editor (no scripting) this would provide a lot of scenarios as many people can use it. (maybe 80%) (I'm here)
- the more sophisticated using scripting, just a few people will use it. (15%?)
- creating 3D graphics, units, objects, etc. just for the elite people. (no more of 5%)
Things that are really necessary (I'm referring just to the first point, for games made with the editor).
Some were already posted but added here just as a summary.
- A manual, as the interface of the editor is not much intuitive, either PDF, or Wiki. The help provided is not enough.
- A plugins manual, with a description of every option.
- Deploy units
There is not option to allow the german player to deploy their units.(if there is one I do not know)
So all scenarios begin with the units, fixed or not, placed on the same place, this is a problem that already happen in the original MP scenarios provided by Slitherine, because when you've played the game several times you know exactly where enemy units are placed and in the first turn you can bombard, send the planes, etc. - A way to define victory condition clearly, now a player surrender and get the Victory message.
- A better acces to objects: tiles, overlays, units, etc.
Now the lists have different font and size, the order in the list is unknown.
Some preferences will help, i.e you're using the French tiles or overlays, then go to the objects placement when you return to tiles the Editor remember wich set you were using, but when you return to the objects placement it always go to Arnhem and with the Arnhem bridge selected by default!! (it's so big). This also happens with the units placement, by default always the Sherman. - A way to know how many point expended by fixed units.
- A list of deployed units, fixed and no fixed, and by side.
- Clicking on the mini map do nothing.
- A way to see the LOF from a unit placed on the map.
- A better load/save system.
- Some more rigor on the interface.
You select and object or overlay and click to place it, with the cursor over a object you puss backspace to remove the object.
You select a unit and click to place it, but you must get backspace down and click a unit to remove it.
