Re: Any news of V2
hey! they never said end of june 2012
Re: Any news of V2
That's right ..;they also said soon ...but do not worry ...end of the world should be 21st december 2012 ...there is still hope to have a V2 before that
Re: Any news of V2
Do you realy think that a new product will be launch just before the holidays when people are thinking about sea, sex and sun and not figs? On the Osprey site you will find the new WW2 rule Bolt Action (review in Wargames illustrated this month), new supplements for FOGN, the new Arthurian rule, the new interwar rule, but nothing about FOG v2.
Re: Any news of V2
I think everyone missed the point. The announcement was that there would be announcment.

Re: Any news of V2
Indeed.
Now I have to discuss options at the Plymouth club tomorrow:
-- decide we are going to use V2 in February, and pray it comes out early enough for people to be happy with that
-- decide we are going to stick with v1, and pray v2 comes out late enough for players to be happy with that
-- Find some other rule set that enough people would support to make the competition viable
-- Abandon the Ancients tournaments completely, because some of the committee don't think they are worth the effort (6 to 12 players for each, compared to the Warhammer competiitons with 30 to 40 entrants each).

PR is obviously not Slitherine's strong point.

Re: Any news of V2
We continue to play FoG-A and enjoy it. We just finshed a mini Caesarian Roman Civil War campaign and a one off MRR v. Seleucid game. The games remain fresh and entertaining.
As for V2 ... I wonder if (1) They have dropped plans to publish a new version (2) Have gone into hiding to write without any static noise (3) The author(s) are playing FoG-R or DBMM ....
We are getting ready to start a series of Punic Wars battles ...
I am looking forward to a V2 ... I think ... But all this silence stinks of the demise of WAB. I hope that's not the case here.

Re: Any news of V2
The problem is not V1 or V2 but not knowing what is going to happen . Many people hesitate to buy/paint a new army because we do not know what changes there will be . Changing the rules is not easy and should be done carrefully but it's been so long now .
And as time goes by, there will always be new ideas but it has to stop somewhere . Next thing we will hear is an idea for adapting FOGN to FOGA
and it will never end .
I really do hope we will have some news soon enough like before the end of the world ( Maya timetable )

Re: Any news of V2
Hi everyone
I've purposely left it until today to see if JD would deliver on his announcement. Unfortunately I've woken up to see that the significant announcement wasn't made.
The current position with FOG is really going to hurt it in the long run. Members of my club are switching back to DBMM and may not return even when FOG 2 is released. Yesterday at a competition in Scarborough I saw a few FOG players playing in the Impetus competition whilst we only had 4 FOG players in our competition. I also overheard one saying that FOG had killed ancient wargaming which was taking things to the extreme.
I have defended FOG in the last few months but am struggling when people are seeing no communication from the authors on here or statements are being made but not delivered.
Surely making a comment about a significant announcement means the authors have something to say. Why not get it said and stop hurting FOG as your lack of communication is the root of the problem.
Yours in FOG.

I mean, is it THIS month, or is it last month. Will it always be 'later this month'?
How about we give up expecting anything.
FoG has just dropped another notch.
Two more comps to go. I gave it three comps before I turned my back on it. I've had one... two to go.

Re: Any news of V2
The Plymouth umpire and I discussed things this afternoon.
We decided that we would use version 2 if it was released no later than Christmas, and version 1 otherwise.
We told the committee that's what we were doing, carefully avoiding giving them an option to discuss it...

I think this is the clearest sign yet that the world is actually ending....
S-d the Mayan's, it's a delay in a minor set of revisions to a set of ancient tabletop gaming rules that is the true harbinger of the apocalypse.

we are literally finalising an announcement as I type, I am sure you will be pleased and hopefully think that the long wait and the new direction is as exciting,
as all of the effort to make it happen...cryptic or what

Re: Any news of V2
Hopefully something that makes sense, like a single free to download A4 sheet detailing changes to:
Table size
Curtailment of turn and move distance
Victory conditions (AP value)
An extra allowable complex move for non-shock cavalry
An improvement to medium foot missile troops
Camels treat soft sand as good going
Minor amendment to skilled sword or armour interaction
Seven paragraphs that should cure everything important in the rules.
Then its on to the lists.
