Conquered Countries Question

Post by joerock22 »

Quick question...say the Allies invade and conquer Belgium on turn 1. It's entirely doable though rarely done because of the stiff penalty. So for a very brief time Belgium joins the Axis. Now, when the Axis capture Belgian cities later, do they get full production or only half like usual?

You will see why I ask this question when *someone* posts the first turn of his new aar. Bet you can't guess who...

I don't know for sure, but the Axis should get full production.

The Axis should get full production because the country is liberated and not conquered. It's the same when the Allies get full production in France when liberating the country.

US war effort is lowered by 6 until they join the Allies. That will drain the US economy and delay when new labs can be built. Not a good choice.

The upside for the Allies is that France won't lose 20 efficiency when Brussels is captured.

I fail to see how this is a good trade off for Morris, given the benefits to the Axis production and the hurt put on the US economy. But he is pretty foxy.

my guess is that this will be to help his massive forward defence strategy - when I faced Morris doing this i went for an early Sealion, worked a treat

I'm sure Morris is going to regret is attack on Belgium. -25% convoy size until USA joins the Allies will be devastating. I suspect a Sealion in this game and Morris won't have enough production to stand against it.

Joerock can now engage the French units during the winter to weaken them. That means the Spring offensive towards Paris will be swift and lethal. The Allies will lose Paris early and that opens up for Sealion. Joerock can now build DD's to have support for his landing troops.

I am sure Morris will repeat his forward defence in the west, absolutely no point in invading Belgium otherwise.

As we note, Sealion is the answer although it will have to be contemperaneous with France as I expect a very big BEF.

I suspect Morris will build next to no labs with the Brits, just land troops for BEF and UK defence.

My bet is this is just a version of his bleed the Axis whilst throwing away the Brits strategy.

Lol, wasn't this the strategy that Morris used to defeat everyone back in 2.0 when he said that the Allies were invincible?

I don't rule out that Joerock will do a 1940 Sealion and maybe a 1942 Barbarossa. Then the Allied strategy will just make Britain fall earlier.

It's possible Joerock will go after Iraq and Persia and reject the Allied armistice offer. Pushing Russia from the south in 1942 can make the Axis hold long enough to win the game. I'm sure Joerock has studied the Fortress Europe strategy by Supermax and found some improvements.

If Joerock will go for a May 1941 Barbarossa I believe he can still do that. Allied presence in France will not delay the fall of Paris long enough to delay Barbarossa. You need a bigger Allied nuisance to disrupt the Barbarossa preparations.

In my game against Richardds he landed a big force near Bergen (2 mechs, 2 corps, several garrisons and 2 fighters). I had to respond to that and soon the Bergen menace is destroyed. That could have disrupted my Barbarossa preparation. I had to sacrifice maybe 150 oil to get rid of this nuisance, but I manahged to keep my build schedule for Barbarossa. I would have ignored Bergen if it hadn't been for the Swedish iron ore being disrupted. Losing 6 PP's per turn is not fun. Still, 150 less oil before Barbarossa means I can't afford a huge air and armor force. I might have to pay the price for that in 1942.

So Morris needs to do something similar to disrupt the Barbarossa build-up. Before Morris sent a lot of UK garrisons to France. That strategy won't work anymore because Britain loses morale if they don't have a big enough home guard.

Yes, but maybe Morris wants to get back to his old-school strategy of ignoring the British labs and building tons of British units and leaders.
